Primary purpose: Provides consulting services, data management, and statistical analysis for CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Leverages analytical expertise and public-health knowledge to deliver actionable insights. A successful candidate will do the following: Manage end-to-end data analysis, including accessing and cleaning data from multiple sources, conducting statistical analyses, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of deliverables. Use R and Python for data cleaning and analysis and adhere to high-quality coding standards. Perform in-depth analyses to derive insights and support actionable reporting. Communicate statistical methodology and analytic findings to stakeholders. Develop clear, informative visualizations to convey key findings. Write and present results tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate in the planning, development, and implementation of projects and related materials. Work independently to manage timelines and deliverables; escalate or collaborate as necessary according to best judgement. Translate client needs into formal requirements and actionable plans. Apply a range of analytical methods (e.g., descriptive, inferential, predictive) depending on project needs. Support senior statisticians with ad-hoc requests. Stay current with industry trends, software advancements, and best practices in public health and analytics. Develop innovative solutions, collaborate across teams, and foster continuous improvement. Requirements Bachelor’s degree and at least six (6) years of relevant experience in Statistics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, or related field; or master’s degree and at least four (4) years of relevant experience Proficiency using R or Python for importing, manipulating, and analyzing data, including evaluating data quality and accuracy Experience managing large data sets, merging files from different platforms, cleaning and aggregating data, and performing quality control Experience in quality-assurance or user-acceptance testing of healthcare data Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills Ability to work independently on some tasks, with general supervision or guidance on others Ability to successfully complete a Position of Public Trust Level 5 background investigation Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or related field Experience with analytic programming languages in addition to R and Python Experience with Databricks, PowerBI, or similar platforms[BL1.1][TJ1.2] Experience importing a variety of data types (including XML, JSON, CSV, and XLSX) into analytic software (such as R or Python) Proficiency creating data visualizations Experience working with healthcare data sets, including standards for healthcare terminology (such as LOINC, SNOMED, and RxNorm) and clinical concepts Knowledge of and/or experience with large data-set analysis for CDC, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or other public-health entity Knowledge of and/or experience with clinical workflow concepts, public health, or healthcare delivery Additional information: We are a remote organization, but we prioritize in-person collaboration during key events such as our annual company meeting.
