Full Description

The Marketing & Communications Director is responsible for telling the KSPS PBS story across broadcast, digital, and community platforms. This role leads both the strategic vision and day-to-day execution of campaigns that grow audience, deepen engagement, and support fundraising efforts. The Director develops and manages cross-platform storytelling initiatives that highlight KSPS PBS’s mission to connect, enrich, and inspire all the communities we serve. This position ensures our story is told in a way that builds audiences for our programming while also attracting the donor support necessary to sustain it, maintaining the balance between mission impact and financial stability. We are setting an ambitious benchmark: that anyone across our region can answer, without hesitation, “KSPS PBS is my local public television station.” Achieving that will take a leader who is strategic, resourceful, and grounded, someone as comfortable building strategy as they are rolling up their sleeves to make it happen. The ideal candidate brings both professional excellence and humility, leading with the same values that guide our organization… integrity, inclusion, professionalism, and innovation. Above all, they share our enduring passion for educating, enriching, and connecting the communities we serve. • * Please Note: This position is based in Spokane, WA, and requires in-office work. To be considered, please submit a cover letter and resume. The ideal candidate is both a strategist and a hands-on practitioner, capable of developing high-level plans while rolling up their sleeves to write, produce, and deploy content. This position requires creativity, adaptability, and a commitment to ensuring KSPS PBS’s brand voice reflects the organization’s values of integrity, inclusion, professionalism, and innovation. Job Duties & Responsibilities 1. Audience Growth & Engagement • Grow and diversify audiences across broadcast, Passport, streaming, YouTube, social media, and digital platforms. • Create campaigns that attract younger and more diverse viewers while sustaining loyal long-time supporters. • Design campaigns that connect the excitement of programming with opportunities for community investment and donor support. 2. Content Creation & Storytelling • Lead cross-platform campaigns using video, social reels, graphics, and copywriting. • Produce and schedule promotional content for broadcast, streaming, and digital outlets. • Ensure content is aligned with KSPS PBS’s mission pillars and IDEA commitments. 3. Digital Strategy • Oversee KSPS.org and digital presence, with attention to SEO, UX, and analytics. • Plan and execute paid and organic digital campaigns (search, social, programmatic) with measurable ROI. • Manage analytics dashboards, track KPIs, and report results to leadership. 4. Community & Partnerships • Build and maintain relationships with regional media, influencers, and partner organizations in both the U.S. and Canada. • Collaborate with internal departments (Development, Education, Production, and Executive leadership) to align messaging and campaigns. • Support fundraising campaigns by creating integrated donor-focused communications. • Be present at community and station events to engage directly with audiences, amplifying energy through live or proof-of-performance posts that celebrate both viewership and donor impact. 5. Management & Leadership • Supervise and mentor the Digital Media Specialist and contractors/vendors. • Provide coaching, clear expectations, and accountability while contributing directly to content creation. • Present marketing strategy and performance metrics to senior leadership and board committees.
