Principal Engineer Greater Los Angeles Area | Full-Time | On-Site (Glendale CA) Confidential Company About the Company Our client is a privately held, mission-driven organization with over 100 years of history in Southern California. As one of the largest private landowners in Los Angeles County, they are actively transforming hundreds of acres of undeveloped land into thoughtfully designed, community-oriented spaces. Their work blends infrastructure, landscape architecture, and cultural heritage to create environments that are both functional and meaningful. The Opportunity We’re seeking a strategic and experienced Principal Engineer to lead the planning, design, and execution of infrastructure and land development projects across multiple sites. This is a high-impact leadership role with the opportunity to shape the future of some of Southern California’s most iconic and serene spaces. What You’ll Do • Lead civil engineering projects including grading, roadways, utilities, and site infrastructure. • Oversees all in-house civil engineering design, documentation and implementation including grading, roadway, utility and development at all locations. • Directs engineering management in formulating plans, designs, cost estimates, and specifications. • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations (SWPPP, LID, SUSMP, etc.). • Serve as the primary liaison with city, county, and state agencies to secure permits and approvals. • Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term infrastructure and land-use planning. • Provide oversight and guidance to the Director of Construction, Project Managers, Designers, Drafters and Engineers. • Provide mentorship and direction to engineers, project managers, and technical staff. • Manage budgets, schedules, and contracts for multiple concurrent projects. What You Bring • 10+ years of civil engineering experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role. • BS in Civil Engineering (or related field); PE license in California required. • Expertise in site design, grading, drainage, utilities, and environmental compliance. • Strong project management and team leadership skills. • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite. • Experience working with regulatory agencies (e.g., ACOE, CDFW, local planning departments). • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. • BS degree in civil engineering or related field from an accredited college or university. Minimum ten years of accumulated experience in civil engineering (or related discipline), design and construction management. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a high-level engineering management position. • Broad experience in design & implementation of projects that involve site design, grading, roadways, drainage, hydrology, SWPPP, SUSMP, DAMP, LID, water quality, utilities, habitat, environmental, survey, soils investigation, structural, file maps and legal descriptions. • Experience working with planning and building departments, ACOE, CDFW and other governmental agencies. • Experience managing multiple teams is required. • Experience working with contractors and subcontractors is required. Other Certifications • Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) certification. • Experience with entitlement processes and legal documentation. • Familiarity with large-scale land development or public space design.
