Full Description

We are seeking a licensed Civil/Structural Engineer based in the Kansas City area who is interested in a rewarding career in forensic engineering. In this role, you’ll investigate construction-related failures and damages, determine causes, and recommend repair solutions. You'll be a critical contributor in evaluating damage from natural disasters, design defects, and structural failures—serving both technical and legal audiences. This position offers the opportunity to develop specialized expertise while working independently in a flexible and impactful environment. Key Responsibilities: Evaluate the cause, scope, and extent of structural damage in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Assess repair options following storms, fires, explosions, construction/design defects, and accidents. Prepare detailed forensic engineering reports and repair recommendations. Communicate findings clearly and confidently, both in writing and in verbal presentations—including courtroom testimony when required. Explain technical issues to clients, attorneys, and other non-technical stakeholders with clarity and patience. Conduct steep-slope roof inspections using rope and harness (training provided). Manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and quality expectations. Travel as necessary to support local and regional project needs. Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering. 5+ years of civil/structural engineering experience (forensic experience preferred but not required). Active P.E. license in Kansas or Missouri. Ability to perform field inspections, including roof evaluations using safety equipment. Strong project management and technical writing skills. Effective communication skills, including public speaking and client presentations. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to shifting project priorities. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in related civil engineering areas such as soils, drainage, pavements, and hydraulics. Experience providing expert opinions or courtroom testimony. Strong analytical and planning skills with attention to detail and precision. Benefits: Competitive compensation package. Opportunity to build a career in a growing niche of forensic engineering. Training and support for specialized inspection techniques. Flexible and autonomous work environment.
