JOB NUMBER: 2025-00229 About the Opportunity: King County Library System (KCLS) is looking for a Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) Material Handler to provide service at the Materials Distribution Center located in Preston, WA. This TLT assignment is for a 6 month duration. The Material Handler position is performed within a clean, organized, and fun interactive warehouse environment. Utilizing an automated sorter conveyor, the Material Handler duties include placing items on the moving conveyor belt as well as organizing and scanning packed containers (totes) for shipping. The position is not sedentary, making time pass quickly in this active team environment. Preston, WA is located 22 miles east of Seattle. There is limited public transportation access to/from this location. Therefore, applicants must have access to their own form of dependable and reliable transportation. Required: Applicants must fill out application thoroughly and truthfully, providing relevant work experience, education, and/or training as it relates to this position. Duties and Responsibilities: • Quickly and accurately unpack, sort and repack materials in totes. • Correctly manage packed containers (totes) of materials bound for various locations. • May occasionally shelve materials. • Maintains the workplace and warehouse in a neat, safe, clean and orderly condition. • Meet expectations related to speed and accuracy within a fast-paced, automated environment. • Perform all other related duties as assigned according to business needs. Education/Experience: • Demonstrated work experience in high-volume production environment such as warehousing, shipping/receiving, working in a mailroom or stockroom, is desired. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly using hands to grasp objects and lift individual books, this is frequently repetitive handling. Frequently required to stand and walk and reach out and down with hands and arms, frequent neck movements to observe workflow and up to frequent bending. The employee will constantly lift/carry 1-3 pounds, seldom up to 35 pounds. Will seldom push/pull carts using light force and with light force to slide totes. WORK ENVIRONMENT In this assignment work is performed within a high noise level, high speed automated environment. Work is performed in an open workspace environment with a high volume of fast-paced team production.
