Candidates should have a minimum of 4 years of experience in media relations and a strong understanding of how earned media impacts brand authority. Excellent communication skills and a data-driven approach are essential.

Kin is seeking a Senior PR Specialist to join our growing communications team. In this role, you will be a key player in shaping and executing our public relations strategy, helping to strengthen Kin's position as a leading innovator in the insurance industry. You will use your strategic storytelling skills and media relationships to drive impactful coverage that aligns with our business goals, with a focus on increasing brand visibility, building authority, and supporting our digital growth objectives. Your responsibilities will include: Strategic Storytelling and Media Relations: Developing and pitching compelling media stories to a wide range of outlets, including consumer, business, tech, and trade publications. Relationship Building: Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key journalists, editors, and influencers. You'll proactively engage with reporters to understand their interests and identify opportunities to place our unique data and insights. Content and Outreach: Developing and placing press releases, blog posts, and other content. You will also own outreach campaigns from ideation to fact checking to pitching and reporting. Data-Driven PR: Working closely with internal teams to transform proprietary data and insights into newsworthy stories that resonate with media and support our GEO, SEO, and growth goals. Media Monitoring & Analysis: Monitoring news cycles and media trends to identify proactive and reactive media opportunities. You will track and analyze the effectiveness of your outreach and provide regular reports to the organic growth team and management. Team Collaboration: Collaborating with cross-functional teams to align PR efforts with business objectives. You'll also provide mentorship and support to junior team members, helping them grow and improve their skills. A day in the life could include: Finding potential story angles based on news trends and data Preparing executives for interviews Pitching a local story angle Writing byline articles Developing and submitting an award entry Working with the product team to confirm details of a new launch What you need to succeed: Experience: A minimum of 4+ years of experience in media relations and public relations with a proven track record of securing media coverage. A background in consumer-facing fintech, insurtech or personal finance industry is a plus. Relationship Management: Experience building and nurturing relationships with journalists and media contacts. Communication Skills: Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt your style for different audiences. Strategic Mindset: A strong understanding of how earned media, including links and citations, impacts brand authority, GEO, and SEO. Data-Driven Approach: You are comfortable using data for storytelling and have experience reporting on campaign performance to a variety of stakeholders. Project Management: The ability to handle and execute multiple projects on tight deadlines with an ownership mentality. Bonus Points: You hold existing relationships with personal finance reporters at national and local news outlets. You’ve generated news based on data and data analysis. You understand economics and how that plays a role in consumer behavior and insurance product pricing. You’ve built ideas that live across media relations, social, content and CX.
