Support providers and nurses during patient care by collecting clinical information, performing point of care testing, assisting with examinations and procedures, administering medications, and maintaining exam rooms.
High school diploma, 1000 hours of recent back-office experience, Medical Assistant certification, and Basic Life Support certification.
Job Summary: Within a team environment, provides support to providers and nurses during patient care encounters. Collects clinical information, completes point of care testing, ensures exam rooms are clean and stocked for patient visits, assists practitioners with examinations, treatment, or procedures, administers prescribed medications within scope, performs follow-up care per provider instructions, and schedules follow-up appointments as ordered. Resolves patient concerns promptly and maintains departmental quality Improvement standards. Essential Responsibilities: • Adheres to Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures, principles of responsibilities, and applicable local, state, and federal laws. • Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and members of the healthcare team. • Completes patient intake, including vital signs, height, weight, and hearing and vision screening, as indicated. • Identifies care gaps and schedules care gap visits/procedures, as indicated. • Prepares consent, school, and work forms for provider to review and sign. • Ensures exam rooms are clean and stocked with essential supplies and equipment for patient visits/procedures. • Completes point of care testing. • Administers in-scope immunizations and medications, as ordered, and provides patients with the most recent Vaccine Information Statement (VIS). • Assists practitioners with examinations, including positioning and draping the patient, passing instruments in a sterile manner, and assisting with minor procedures. • Documents patient care and education in the electronic medical record. • Actively participates in Unit Based Team (UBT) and staff meetings, department-specific education, and quality improvement initiatives. • May perform other in-scope duties as assigned. License, Certification, Registration • Medical Assistant Certificate from American Association of Medical Assistants OR NCCT National Certified Medical Assistant OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant OR Registered Medical Assistant OR American Medical Technologist Medical Technologist Certificate • Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association Additional Requirements: • Customer service aptitude demonstrated through Customer Service Assessment.
