Role Description The Director of Government Business Development is responsible for leading, managing, and executing the company’s business development strategy to drive growth and strengthen client relationships. This role oversees all aspects of business development, including client engagement, pursuit strategies, and proposal management. The Director will regularly visit clients, attend industry events, and maintain a strong presence in the market. Responsibilities & Duties • Develop, implement, and oversee the company’s business development strategy in alignment with organizational goals. • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities in federal, state, and local markets. • Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular meetings, site visits, and participation in industry events. • Lead capture planning efforts, including competitor analysis, win strategy, and pricing alignment. • Direct and oversee the proposal development process, ensuring timely, compliant, and high-quality submissions. • Supervise, mentor, develop, and provide strategic direction to direct reports, fostering a high-performance team culture. • Conduct regular performance reviews, set goals, and provide professional development opportunities. • Promote collaboration, effective communication, accountability, and innovation within the team. • Maintain familiarity with industry trends to strengthen proposal competitiveness. • Represent the company at client meetings, conferences, networking events, and industry forums. • Develop and deliver presentations, capability statements, and marketing materials to prospective clients. • Maintain a strong understanding of client needs, project requirements, and market shifts. • Manage the department’s budget, tracking expenses related to travel, marketing, and proposal development. • Maintain accurate records of opportunities, client interactions, and proposal submissions in CRM or designated tracking systems. • Perform additional duties and special projects as delegated by leadership. • Ensure continuous improvement of business development processes, tools, and systems. • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events, while collaborating with the Marketing team to coordinate event logistics, promotional materials, and client engagement opportunities that support brand visibility and business development objectives. • Additional duties and assigned special projects as delegated by manager. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field; Master’s degree a plus. • Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or government contracting; with at least five (5) years in a leadership role. • Experience managing opportunities through completion, including coordinating agreements, aligning expectations, and fostering long-term partnerships. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, and CRM systems. • Ability to travel frequently for client visits, conferences, business development initiatives, and emergency response activities. • Valid driver’s license. Knowledge, Skill, & Abilities • Strong knowledge of the full business development lifecycle, with the ability to identify opportunities, establish rapport, and foster collaborative client relationships. • Strong knowledge of disaster relief programs. • Excellent leadership, team development, and mentorship skills. • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. • Strong time management, organizational, and attention to detail. • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills. • Ability to be a proactive and resourceful problem solver. • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting or independently. • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet scheduled deadlines. • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Ability to follow all company policies and procedures. • Willingness to work outside of regular work schedule when necessary.
