Provide domain expertise to guide genomic data pipelines, validate computational approaches, collaborate with engineers, and develop Jupyter notebooks for genomic workflows.
PhD-level training in genetics/genomics, hands-on experience with genomic datasets and Jupyter notebooks, strong communication skills, and availability for part-time remote work.
About Us GeneEase is an early-stage company building a platform to make genomic data processing and analysis more accessible to clinicians, researchers, and labs. We leverage AI to empower clinicians and researchers with accessible, actionable insights from genomic data, focusing on early detection of subclinical conditions like intolerances and autoimmune disorders. We’re looking for a part-time genetics/biology expert to join our team and provide domain expertise that guides our data pipelines, product development, and validation. Role Overview As a Genetics/Biology Expert, you will: • Apply deep knowledge of genetics, genomics, and molecular biology to inform product design and ensure accurate data interpretation. • Help evaluate the biological validity of computational approaches. • Collaborate with data scientists/engineers to ensure analyses reflect real-world clinical/research needs. • Use Jupyter notebooks (Python/R) to prototype, validate, document genomic data workflows for cross-functional teams. • Contribute to literature reviews and ensure we’re aligned with current scientific best practices. • Advise on complex cases, such as variant interpretation or multi-omics integration, to ensure biological accuracy and avoid common pitfalls. Key Responsibilities • Review and optimize genetic/genomic data processing pipelines (e.g., for WGS, WES, or variant calling) to ensure scientific rigor. • Translate biological concepts into requirements for engineers. • Provide scientific feedback on MVP features, such as variant annotation tools or clinical report generation, to ensure usability and accuracy. • Develop or review Jupyter notebooks to create reusable templates or tutorials for genomic workflows (Python/R required). • Stay current with genetics/genomics research to inform product enhancements and ensure cutting-edge solutions. Requirements • Advanced training in genetics, genomics, or molecular biology (PhD preferred, MSc with strong experience also considered). • Hands-on experience with genomic datasets, such as NGS, SNP arrays, or variant analysis. • Experience using Jupyter notebooks for data exploration and annotation. • Strong ability to communicate biological insights to a cross-functional team (engineers, product). • Availability for ~15–20 hours/week (flexible). Nice-to-Haves • Experience with bioinformatics pipelines, including tools like GATK, BWA, or ANNOVAR for variant calling, alignment, or annotation. • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools like Bioconductor, scikit-bio, BEDTools, VCFtools, or Galaxy. • Prior work in precision medicine, clinical genomics, or translational research (e.g., pharmacogenomics, disease risk prediction). • Familiar with HIPPA and GDPR requirements in healthcare platforms. Why Join Us • Shape the foundation of a product that bridges biology and computation. • Collaborate with a global, interdisciplinary team. • Flexible, remote-first engagement. • Opportunity to see your expertise directly influence product development.
