We provide personalized, high-quality representation to clients facing life-changing circumstances and maintain a collaborative, respectful work culture rooted in integrity, empathy, and excellence. ⸻ Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Legal Assistant / Paralegal to support our attorneys in all aspects of criminal defense and juvenile dependencymatters. This is a remote, full-time position for a highly organized, self-sufficient professional who thrives in a structured environment and is comfortable working independently. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in California criminal procedure, case preparation, and client communication, and will be capable of managing multiple cases and deadlines with precision and professionalism. If you are a motivated legal professional who takes initiative, communicates effectively, and brings a compassionate yet professional approach to client service, we want to meet you. ⸻ Key Responsibilities • Assist attorneys in all aspects of criminal defense and juvenile dependency cases from origin through trial or hearing. • Draft, proofread, and file motions, pleadings, discovery requests, subpoenas, and court forms with minimal supervision. • Prepare and submit electronic filings in state and juvenile courts (via OneLegal, Odyssey, or local county systems). • Organize, review, and maintain case files and discovery, including police reports, digital evidence, and confidential materials. • Manage and document all communications, tasks, and timekeepingaccurately within MyCase. • Maintain meticulous case notes, calendar deadlines, and proactively communicate status updates to attorneys and staff. • Coordinate with expert witnesses, investigators, and other vendorsfor case preparation and trial support. • Assist in trial preparation including exhibit lists, witness lists, and document binders. • Communicate compassionately and professionally with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel. • Handle mailing, faxing, and electronic transmission of legal documents as needed. • Uphold the firm’s reputation for excellence and client care in all written and verbal communication. ⸻ Required Qualifications • Minimum 3–5+ years of experience in a California criminal defense firm or working with a criminal defense attorney. • Solid understanding of California Rules of Court, local rules, and criminal procedure. • Strong legal writing, editing, and document formatting skills. • Experience with MyCase (or comparable systems such as Clio, Filevine, or PracticePanther). • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, and e-filing platforms. • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities remotely. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high emotional intelligence and professionalism. • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through. • Understanding of confidentiality, attorney–client privilege, and work product protections. • Knowledge of juvenile court confidentiality laws. • Experience handling and organizing discovery and evidence, including digital formats. • Experience with billable timekeeping and adherence to firm and court deadlines. • Demonstrated ability to maintain boundaries and communicate respectfully with clients under stress. ⸻ Preferred Qualifications • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved or equivalent program (preferred, not required). • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent legal experience. • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred but not required. • Prior experience working remotely in a law firm. ⸻ Personal Attributes for Success • Compassionate and patient with clients facing difficult situations. • Calm, professional demeanor even under pressure. • Self-starting and accountable — takes ownership of tasks and deadlines. • Strong sense of discretion, ethics, and professionalism. • Team-oriented mindset — communicates clearly and supports firm operations. • Passion for justice, advocacy, and service. ⸻ Compensation & Benefits • Salary Range: $65,000 – $90,000 annually (depending on experience, credentials, and scope of responsibility). • Health Insurance: Employer contribution toward group health plans. • Retirement Plan: 401(k) with firm contribution. • Paid Time Off: Paid vacation plus federal holidays. • Remote Flexibility: Fully remote work with expectation of reliable communication and accountability. ⸻ To Apply Please submit a cover letter, résumé, and two professional references.
