What you will do Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Applied Systems Engineer to support all aspects of our equipment portfolio, and leverage the differentiators we have through our controls and service arms of our business. You'll work with different SME's across the business, and develop unique systems strategies that sets JCI apart. Your deep technical expertise, industry knowledge, and hands-on experience will drive Johnson Controls’ applied systems initiatives and influence best practices across the HVAC industry. This role provides systems expertise to ensure seamless integration of Johnson Controls applied equipment into complex HVAC systems for optimal performance, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability. In addition, the position contributes to thought leadership through technical publications and active participation in industry forums, strengthening Johnson Controls’ reputation as an innovator and trusted resource in delivering sustainable, lifecycle-optimized HVAC solutions. This is a remote position for anyone based in the US, however; we do prefer candidates based in the Chicago, IL, and/or Milwaukee, WI, area, but this is not a requirement. How you will do it Support strategic opportunities that showcase Johnson Controls’ unique applied systems value proposition Develop and present technical content for customer sessions, training programs, and industry events Author technical papers, articles, and manuals for respected industry publications such as ASHRAE Journal, as well as Johnson Controls’ technical resources Create and maintain comprehensive system and application guides detailing best practices for design, installation, integration, commissioning, and lifecycle optimization of Johnson Controls equipment within HVAC systems Develop step-by-step application guides for complex system configurations, including energy optimization strategies, sustainability considerations, and troubleshooting procedures Research emerging technologies and system applications to enhance Johnson Controls’ technical knowledge base and support innovation in sustainable HVAC solutions Collaborate with engineering, product development, and marketing teams on system-level design considerations and performance optimization Review technical documentation for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with industry standards Represent Johnson Controls on industry committees (e.g., ASHRAE) to contribute to standards development and best practices What you will need Required Bachelor’s degree in engineering 8+ years of HVAC industry experience with a strong understanding of HVAC systems, components, and applications, including lifecycle performance and sustainability principles Demonstrated ability to perform objective technical analysis and apply load analysis and energy modeling tools Preferred Active involvement in professional associations such as ASHRAE, USGBC, ASHE, or AEE Consulting engineering experience HIRING SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $135,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
