Full Description

The Office of Development Communications for Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) helps Johns Hopkins realize its mission of providing knowledge for the world by communicating the successes and priorities of the Johns Hopkins Institutions. The office increases awareness of philanthropic impact and opportunities by promoting giving and engagement with Johns Hopkins. The Digital Communications Specialist contributes to the integrated and comprehensive approach to brand building and provides communications support for a department, center, or program. Will write and produce printed and digital communications material. The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for the communication and marketing of events and partners with internal and/or external stakeholders to ensure engagement with the appropriate audience while maximizing visibility and recognition. Key Responsibilities • Serve as the primary writer and editor for printed materials related to the area, events, and activities. • Perform a variety of research, writing and digital production for communications vehicles. • Write new material or contribute to a variety of communication media, e.g., website, proposals, summary reports, fact sheets, newsletters, marketing materials, correspondence, brochures. • Conduct interviews and/or collect information to develop content for communication materials. • Select visual assets to accompany written work. • Coordinate, oversee, schedule, and make appropriate arrangements for production and distribution of communications materials. • Serve as primary contact with vendors. • Participate and contribute to planning and identifying content, theme, message, and tone. • Implement project strategies and work plans developed by project leadership and support team in communicating, coordinating, completing, and disseminating project deliverables and tracking metrics. • May manage and maintain social media accounts, newsletters, and/or website content. • Support the planning and execution of webinars and other internal or external facing events. • Develop internal and external communication materials for project promotion. • Participate in high-level project team meetings and conference calls. • Support the development of proposals or other documentation for new or continued funding as needed. • Communicate challenges, requirements, and deadlines to team and ensure project timelines and deliverables are met. • Other duties as assigned. In addition to the duties listed above, the Digital Communications Specialist will: • Develop and implement a data-based social media strategy, monitoring day-to-day social media activity and larger trends and analyzing communications and engagement activities. • Plan, produce, and schedule social media content (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X) aligned with social media strategy to reach target audience, including developing regular social media series; producing social-first media videos, and covering on- and off- campus events • Serve as the primary digital communications contact for DAR’s Office of Talent Management and Human Resources, including managing the DAR LinkedIn Channel • Participate in the office’s beat system, collecting story ideas and assets from Hopkins divisions, departments, and schools • Provide social graphic design support for the Development Communications office and adjacent DAR teams. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. • Two years of related experience. • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/ graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications • At least two years of relevant experience in managing social media in a professional setting and be familiar with social media trends, as well as scheduling and reporting tools, such as Sprout Social • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
