Joby Overview Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service. Overview As a Counsel, Labor & Employment, you'll play a key role in navigating complex matters. You'll collaborate closely across the Legal and People teams and partner with cross-functional stakeholders to advise on a wide range of issues related to employment, labor, and benefits. You will serve as a trusted advisor and problem-solver, working on fast-moving, high-impact matters every day. Success in this role means building strong relationships across the business and delivering timely, pragmatic guidance that both identifies and mitigates risk—enabling the company to move quickly and confidently. Responsibilities Advise on employment and labor related matters, including terminations, performance management, investigations, accommodations, and other workplace issues. Lead and support employment-related initiatives, such as policy development, process improvements, and training programs. Lead and support employment related litigation matters. Draft, review, and refine employment related documents, including agreements, policies, and internal communications. Partner on privacy and cybersecurity initiatives impacting employees and workplace operations. Advise on employee benefits related matters, including equity incentive programs. Collaborate cross-functionally to educate teams on legal considerations related to employment and benefits matters, driving aligned and informed decision-making. Work closely with other members of the legal department on cross-functional initiatives, including support for M&A. Partner with People team and other legal team members to deliver/manage employee training. Manage outside counsel in related matters, including local counsel for international jurisdictions. Required J.D. from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in the U.S. 5+ years of total legal experience in labor and employment at a top tier law firm and large in-house legal department. Desired Experience counseling clients on labor and employment matters. Proven track record of providing thoughtful, legal, and strategic guidance to senior leaders. Experience forging relationships and advising leaders and key stakeholders across global companies. Proven attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills. Comfortable with hands-on execution and detail as well as developing big-picture strategies. Strong communication skills. Direct, action-oriented approach to solving problems. Experience performing compliance audits with company programs and policies. The ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment, and comfortable juggling multiple projects in a time-sensitive manner. A team-oriented mentality, humility, and a healthy sense of humor. Experience and aptitude in other legal areas including, litigation, privacy, risk management. Experience with workers’ compensation matters and other employment-related insurance matters. Experience with organized labor matters. Additional Information Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $153,000 - $204,100/yr. The compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
