This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence and elevate the security posture of a fast-growing technology organization. You will lead high-impact security initiatives across applications and infrastructure while mentoring a small team of security engineers. Working in a remote-first, agile environment, you will collaborate with engineering and IT leaders to shape security strategy, perform hands-on technical work, and guide the company in addressing vulnerabilities and emerging threats. This position combines strategic influence, technical execution, and people management, enabling you to make measurable improvements to the organization’s security capabilities. Accountabilities: Lead application security initiatives, including secure design reviews, vulnerability management, and threat modeling. Mentor and manage a small group of security engineers, providing guidance, removing blockers, and fostering technical growth. Drive company-wide accountability for security concerns, ensuring findings are remediated and objectives are met. Architect and implement complex security solutions while contributing to the long-term security roadmap. Collaborate with engineering, IT, and product teams to advise on security requirements and best practices. Respond to and resolve security inquiries, incidents, and investigations, producing clear reports and recommendations. Monitor industry trends, emerging threats, and technology developments to maintain proactive security measures. 8+ years of hands-on experience in senior, autonomous security roles embedded within software engineering or IT teams. Proven expertise in web application security, secure architecture design, and code review practices. Experience owning end-to-end security programs, including SDLC security, vulnerability management, and threat modeling. Prior experience managing or mentoring 1-3 security engineers, with involvement in hiring processes. Strong communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams. Familiarity with infrastructure, cloud (AWS), containerization (Kubernetes), CI/CD, and monitoring tools. Experience with Python, FastAPI, React, Postgres, Kafka, Redis, or similar modern tech stacks is a plus. Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and standards in fintech or consumer app domains is desirable. Remote-first work flexibility with autonomy over schedule and location.
