This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Performance in the United States. We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Software Engineer focused on infrastructure performance to optimize large-scale backend systems and reduce operational costs. In this role, you will work across multiple infrastructure domains, including containerized services, data pipelines, and machine learning platforms, to identify bottlenecks and implement performance improvements. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to profile, tune, and scale services while designing distributed performance tools and load-testing frameworks. This position provides the opportunity to influence hardware and software strategies, optimize resource usage, and enhance the performance observability of critical systems. Accountabilities Optimize performance and reduce operating costs across infrastructure services, collaborating with engineers and cross-functional partners. Profile, analyze, and tune critical services to minimize latency and improve throughput. Build distributed performance tooling and automation to identify bottlenecks and monitor system health. Lead continuous load testing in production to uncover vulnerabilities and validate improvements. Modernize software stack and deploy the latest hardware across cloud infrastructure to maximize efficiency. Provide performance observability and metrics for resources like CPU, memory, and locks across backend systems. Share insights and best practices across engineering teams to improve overall system performance. 10+ years of experience in performance optimization within fast-paced, high-growth tech environments. Deep expertise in software tuning and optimization, preferably in Java or C++. Knowledge of processor vectorization and hardware-aware optimizations. Proficiency in performance metrics, load testing, and performance debugging. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container/orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Strong problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and effective communication across teams. Experience designing distributed tools and systems for performance observability.
