Full Description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Cedar. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Payment Workflows) in the United States. This role provides the opportunity to lead the development of scalable, reliable, and user-centric payment workflows in a high-impact, mission-driven environment. You will help shape the end-to-end checkout experience, ensuring smooth, secure, and efficient payment operations for millions of users. The position emphasizes both hands-on engineering and team mentorship, enabling high-quality design, clear documentation, and process improvements across the engineering team. You will work closely with cross-functional partners, including product, design, and commercial teams, to balance short-term delivery with long-term system reliability. Your contributions will directly improve user experience, operational efficiency, and financial workflows in the healthcare sector. Accountabilities: · Lead the design, development, and improvement of end-to-end checkout flows and payment workflow capabilities. · Establish scalable design patterns and standardized interfaces to reduce bespoke work and simplify extensions. · Drive technical excellence through high-signal code reviews, mentorship, and documentation to multiply team productivity. · Partner with product, design, commercial, and platform teams to align priorities, communicate tradeoffs, and maintain focus on strategic initiatives. · Evaluate vendor solutions and platform abstractions to reduce cost and complexity. · Advocate for reliability, observability, and maintainability of payment systems. · Implement operating practices that reduce thrash and increase team focus and trust with stakeholders. · 8+ years of professional software development experience with a strong backend focus (APIs, services, event-driven systems). · Proven experience as a force multiplier—raising standards, mentoring engineers, and improving cross-team productivity. · Experience leading large-scale initiatives, refactors, or complex projects; familiarity with workflow/rules engines or financial correctness systems is a plus. · Skilled at balancing near-term deliverables with long-term investments, with clear communication of tradeoffs to technical and non-technical partners. · Strong accountability, comfort with ambiguity, and motivation to improve complex financial systems. · Experience in payments systems is a plus but not required. · Proficiency in relevant programming languages and backend technologies; cloud experience preferred. · Competitive salary range: $216,750 – $280,000 USD, plus equity eligibility. · Flexible work arrangements: remote or in-office, depending on your preference. · Unlimited PTO for vacation, sick, and mental health days; minimum recommendation of 20 days of vacation per year. · 16 weeks paid parental leave with health benefits and flexible return-to-work options. · Health benefits including fertility and adoption assistance starting on your first month. · 401(k) plan with 100% company match up to 3% of annual compensation. · Diversity and inclusion initiatives, including employee resource groups and mentorship programs. · Team discretionary budget for professional development and personal growth.
