This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Design Systems in United States or Canada. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and shape the long-term technical strategy for internal design systems that enable consistent, high-quality user experiences across a fast-growing engineering organization. You will be responsible for building and maintaining shared UI components, guiding engineering teams in UX and accessibility best practices, and influencing key technical and product decisions. The position combines hands-on development, strategic leadership, and cross-functional collaboration, allowing you to make a lasting impact on product quality, engineering culture, and developer experience. You will mentor engineers, drive complex technical initiatives, and ensure that design system solutions scale reliably while maintaining an exceptional user experience. Accountabilities: Lead the development and maintenance of shared UI components, ensuring consistency, reliability, and high-quality documentation. Establish and advocate for UI/UX best practices and design standards across engineering teams. Educate and mentor engineers on design system implementation, accessibility, and front-end best practices. Scope and lead large technical initiatives that enhance system performance and developer experience. Drive key technical decisions and provide guidance on system design, architecture, and design craft. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address product, technical, and operational challenges with clear solutions. Serve as a cultural leader, modeling collaborative behaviors and fostering a high-performing engineering environment. 9+ years of industry experience with deep expertise in frontend development, design systems, accessibility, or application performance. Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and drive strategic initiatives in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Mastery of system design and software architecture with a strong sense of design craft and user experience. Experience building developer tooling and abstractions that improve user-facing applications. Expertise in debugging and supporting platform tooling for frontend systems. Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions at all organizational levels. Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and balance technical quality with business priorities.
