This role focuses on building and scaling backend systems that power an impactful educational platform used by administrators, teachers, and parents. You will design, implement, and maintain robust infrastructure and integrations that directly support the delivery of curriculum and student development tools. Accountabilities: As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and developing backend systems while driving technical excellence across teams: Partner with Product and Design teams to scope, design, and deliver new features in the Education product line. Architect, refine, and scale backend systems, introducing technologies and patterns to strengthen system foundations. Own and evolve eCommerce systems and integrations supporting the delivery of educational products. Collaborate across functions to ensure technology decisions align with business objectives and customer needs. Contribute to technical direction through high-quality code, thoughtful reviews, and best practice advocacy. Mentor and guide team members, fostering knowledge sharing and improving team velocity and execution. Candidates should have a strong technical foundation, experience building scalable systems, and the ability to work in a collaborative, impact-driven environment: 5+ years of professional experience developing backend systems, preferably in fast-paced startups or mid-stage companies. Expertise in designing and implementing distributed systems for scalability and reliability, with proficiency in languages such as Ruby on Rails, Python, or Go. Experience with payment or billing systems like Stripe and building integrations that support operational growth. Experience contributing to or leading migration and architectural evolution efforts while maintaining ongoing product delivery. Strong collaboration skills, working cross-functionally from concept to launch. Experience mentoring other engineers and establishing engineering best practices. Bonus: experience with microservices/service-oriented architectures and full-stack development using React.js. Competitive salary range: $154,000 - $237,000 annually.
