Lead networking strategy for hybrid cloud and data center infrastructure, automate core networking capabilities, improve resilience, and mentor SREs.
Requires 10+ years in network or infrastructure engineering, deep networking and hybrid-cloud expertise, automation and IaC proficiency, and technical leadership in large-scale production systems.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Site Reliability Engineer – Networking based in United States . In this senior technical role, you will define and lead networking strategy across a globally distributed hybrid infrastructure supporting a large-scale internet intelligence and cybersecurity platform. You will take ownership of critical network architecture spanning physical data centers, public cloud environments, Kubernetes, and edge infrastructure. Your work will directly influence platform reliability, performance, security, and the ability to deliver real-time internet intelligence to customers worldwide. You will design and automate network infrastructure using software engineering principles, ensuring that infrastructure changes are reliable, scalable, and continuously deployable. Working across engineering and infrastructure teams, you will establish technical standards, lead complex resilience initiatives, and drive long-term architectural improvements. This is an opportunity to combine deep networking expertise with hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and innovation in a mission-driven cybersecurity environment. \n Accountabilities Define and own the technical direction for networking across a hybrid infrastructure, covering physical data center networks, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) VPC architecture, Kubernetes networking, and edge protection. Design, develop, and automate core networking capabilities, including load balancing, ingress, routing, DNS, BGP peering, and TLS termination, integrating infrastructure changes into GitOps pipelines. Lead cross-data-center resilience initiatives for globally distributed on-premises scanning infrastructure, including failover architecture, disaster recovery, and workload continuity. Develop and maintain edge protection strategies for internet-facing platforms, including Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation, Web Application Firewall (WAF) solutions, and traffic engineering. Ensure network infrastructure delivers the reliability, availability, performance, and scalability required to support large-scale scanning operations and customer-facing APIs. Establish networking and reliability standards across engineering teams, identifying architectural improvements, technical debt, and opportunities to strengthen infrastructure resilience. Lead multi-quarter infrastructure initiatives, developing technical proposals, securing cross-functional alignment, and influencing architectural decisions across teams. Mentor and support Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team members, strengthening internal networking expertise through knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and sustainable engineering practices. Act as a senior escalation point for complex production incidents involving application, Kubernetes, and physical network infrastructure. Continuously improve network automation, monitoring, health checks, certificate lifecycle management, traffic management, and capacity planning processes. Requirements: At least 10 years of experience in network engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or infrastructure engineering, with a proven track record of managing and improving production networking environments. Deep understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, BGP, anycast, DNS, TLS, and large-scale load balancing. Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating hybrid infrastructure spanning physical data centers and public cloud environments, ideally Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Strong knowledge of Kubernetes networking, including Container Network Interface (CNI), ingress controllers, and service mesh technologies. Experience developing software and automation tools for network infrastructure, including health-checking services, certificate lifecycle management, traffic management, and operational tooling using programming languages such as Go or Python. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps practices, with hands-on experience using tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, ArgoCD, or equivalent technologies. Experience designing and implementing highly available network architectures, disaster recovery strategies, cross-data-center failover, and infrastructure resilience programs. Strong technical leadership skills, with the ability to influence architectural decisions, lead complex initiatives, and gain alignment across teams without relying on formal authority. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical incidents, infrastructure trade-offs, and reliability strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proactive, ownership-driven mindset, with a bias toward action, iterative problem-solving, and continuous improvement. Additional assets: Experience managing large-scale traffic delivery and network infrastructure in consumer-facing environments, such as streaming platforms, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), or global anycast networks. Proven ability to eliminate repetitive operational work through automation, including TLS certificate rotation, failover testing, and capacity forecasting. Familiarity with internet measurement, internet scanning infrastructure, cybersecurity, or security-related network operations. Understanding of how large-scale scanning traffic interacts with network peering relationships, abuse reporting, and internet infrastructure providers. Interest in leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) to improve infrastructure engineering, incident analysis, and configuration automation. Contributions to the wider technical community through conference presentations, open-source projects, or technical publications. Benefits: Competitive compensation, with the following advertised US salary ranges depending on location: USD $198,000–$233,000 annually for high-cost-of-living US markets, including San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Seattle. USD $172,000–$216,000 annually for other US locations. Additional bonus eligibility and equity compensation. Comprehensive benefits package effective from the first day of employment. Health, dental, and vision insurance. 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching for eligible US employees. Fully remote working environment. Opportunity to lead critical networking architecture and influence infrastructure strategy across a globally distributed platform. Collaborative engineering culture focused on technical excellence, innovation, reliability, and continuous improvement. Opportunity to explore AI-powered tools and modern automation approaches to improve infrastructure operations. \n How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
