Full Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Engineer, Data based in the United States. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader to shape and build the data infrastructure powering a growing rental housing technology platform. In this role, you will drive the architecture and development of systems that collect, process, and deliver reliable data across applications, APIs, partner integrations, and analytics platforms. You will combine deep software engineering expertise with strong data engineering capabilities to solve complex business challenges and improve decision-making. Working closely with product, finance, and operations teams, you will own high-impact projects and measurable outcomes. You will also establish engineering standards, mentor colleagues, and help a small, collaborative team work efficiently with modern AI development tools. This remote-first opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys balancing technical strategy, hands-on development, and team leadership. \n Accountabilities Design and build core data infrastructure, including event and data models, ingestion pipelines, integrations with application databases and external partners, data warehouses, and transformation layers. Develop and maintain production application code, including backend services, APIs, and jobs that generate, process, and consume data. Partner with product, finance, and operations stakeholders to define business outcomes, prioritize initiatives, and make informed decisions about project scope and delivery. Own the reliability, accuracy, and integrity of critical business data, including financial close processes, reporting, and partner data exchanges. Establish and maintain engineering standards for code quality, testing, code reviews, observability, and data quality, including careful evaluation of AI-generated code. Make pragmatic build-versus-buy decisions, assess technical trade-offs, and document architectural choices and their rationale. Lead high-impact technical initiatives from discovery through implementation, ensuring solutions meet business needs and deliver measurable results. Mentor engineers through collaborative development, pairing, design reviews, and constructive feedback, while supporting the growth of direct reports. Protect sensitive financial and personal information by implementing appropriate security practices and maintaining compliance with applicable requirements. Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture that values ownership, technical excellence, continuous improvement, and effective use of AI-powered development tools. Requirements At least eight years of professional software engineering experience, including technical leadership at a senior or staff level. Strong backend software engineering expertise in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, Ruby, Go, TypeScript, or Java, with a proven record of building and shipping production application systems. Solid data engineering experience, including SQL, data modeling, data warehouses such as Snowflake or BigQuery, transformation tools such as dbt, and orchestration platforms such as Prefect or Airflow. Experience designing, developing, and scaling APIs, distributed systems, and relational databases. Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices. Strong product awareness and the ability to connect technical decisions to customer needs, business priorities, and measurable outcomes. Proficiency with AI-powered coding tools and sound judgment when reviewing, validating, and improving AI-generated output. Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous, complex, and high-impact projects through to successful completion. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience in fintech, insurtech, payments, or proptech is an advantage. Familiarity with regulated environments and standards such as SOC 2, PCI, or consumer finance regulations is desirable. Experience building new products or data platforms from the ground up in a startup or growth-stage company is beneficial. Previous experience managing engineers, or a strong interest in developing people-management skills, is a plus. Benefits Annual base salary: $195,000–$235,000, depending on qualifications, experience, and internal compensation considerations. Additional compensation: Competitive total compensation package that may include milestone-based bonuses and other financial perks. Medical, dental, and vision insurance: Coverage with up to 90% employer contribution, available from the start date. Retirement and savings: Access to a 401(k) plan and Health Savings Account (HSA). Life and disability insurance: Additional insurance coverage with no employee contribution. Paid time off: Unlimited paid time off policy. Parental leave: Generous paid parental leave. Equity participation: Stock option plan offering employees a direct stake in the company's success. Remote-first culture: Flexibility to work remotely, with opportunities for in-person team collaboration. Monthly lifestyle stipend: Financial support for lifestyle needs, including meals, wellness, and coworking. Employment type: Full-time. Professional impact: An opportunity to influence technical direction, build scalable data systems, and contribute to products addressing real-world challenges in the rental housing market. \n How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
