The Senior Lead Software Engineer will be responsible for leading the development, optimization, and reliability of large-scale, business-critical backend systems in a high-growth e-commerce environment. This role offers the opportunity to work across distributed microservices, cloud platforms, and full-stack systems, ensuring performance, security, and scalability. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to deliver robust, cloud-based solutions that enhance the shopping experience for millions of users. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, mentorship, and strategic problem-solving, enabling you to influence system architecture, reliability practices, and operational excellence. You will also guide SLOs, error budgets, and system performance metrics while exploring innovative technologies to drive continuous improvement. Accountabilities: Lead multiple technology projects, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of distributed microservices and full-stack systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, reliable, and scalable software solutions that support business growth and regulatory requirements. Monitor and improve the visibility of business-critical transactions, define service-level objectives (SLOs), and manage error budgets. Mentor and support other engineers while fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. Engage with digital product managers to ensure cloud-based solutions meet user needs and deliver a seamless shopping experience. Leverage technologies such as Node.js, Go, Python, Docker, AWS, Kafka, Cassandra, OpenSearch, and PostgreSQL to optimize backend performance and reliability. Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and design evaluations to ensure best practices and compliance with system standards. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (internships excluded). 1+ year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud). 9+ years of experience in Node.js, Go, or Python for backend development. 3+ years of experience with AWS cloud architecture and services. 3+ years of experience in security, performance tuning, and on-call operations for internet-scale microservices. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and scalable cloud-based applications. Strong collaboration skills, mentorship experience, and familiarity with agile development methodologies. Competitive annual salary range: $204,900 – $233,800 (remote-eligible, location dependent).
