This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Software Engineering Manager in the United States. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and inspire a team of talented engineers working on foundational systems and high-impact initiatives. You will balance technical leadership with people management, guiding the team to deliver robust, scalable solutions while fostering growth, collaboration, and innovation. The position involves contributing to architecture decisions, performing code reviews, and occasionally coding alongside the team, ensuring technical excellence while promoting a strong culture of ownership and mentorship. Ideal candidates are passionate about database internals, system design, and solving complex engineering challenges, while thriving in a fast-paced, distributed environment. This role directly influences the quality, scalability, and impact of core company products. Accountabilities Lead, mentor, and coach a team of engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable software. Set technical vision, drive execution on high-impact initiatives, and maintain alignment across teams. Partner with Product and Design teams to define long-term strategies and product roadmaps. Conduct code reviews, contribute to architecture decisions, and occasionally participate in hands-on coding. Empower engineers with business context and ownership of team roadmaps and deliverables. Collaborate with peer managers to refine organizational processes, including hiring, onboarding, and project execution. Support customer-facing initiatives by addressing needs and concerns with cross-functional teams. 2+ years of people management experience leading product engineering teams. Proven experience managing teams through all stages of the product development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, observability, release strategies, and incident management. Deep understanding of systems engineering, database architecture, compute engines, or compiler design. Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, with expertise in C, C++, Rust, or Java. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to diverse stakeholders. Experience in remote-first or distributed team environments, with startup or scale-up exposure. Pragmatic and toolchain-agnostic, with a history of selecting technologies that best fit project goals. Ability to define high-performing teams and provide clear guidance to achieve outcomes. Bonus Points: Experience with analytical database tooling, SQL, or query optimizers.
