This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Backend based in United States. This role offers the opportunity to build highly scalable backend systems that power cloud governance and automation at enterprise scale. You will design distributed, event-driven services that process governance workloads across thousands of cloud accounts and multiple regions. The position combines deep backend engineering with architecture, API development, data systems, and cloud infrastructure. You will work with modern technologies while solving complex challenges around reliability, observability, performance, and consistency. As a senior technical contributor, you will lead backend initiatives, mentor engineers, and influence architectural decisions. The environment is highly collaborative, distributed, and Agile/DevOps-oriented, with strong emphasis on ownership and engineering quality. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to products built around open-source cloud governance technologies and large-scale customer needs. \n Accountabilities Design, develop, and operate distributed, event-driven backend services that support cloud governance workloads at large scale. Build and evolve GraphQL APIs used by customers and internal teams, ensuring reliability, maintainability, and strong performance. Develop pipelines capable of executing governance policies across thousands of cloud accounts, regions, and cloud environments. Design and maintain data stores supporting cloud asset and cost information, including database schemas, migrations, and query optimization. Work extensively with AWS services and serverless technologies, including Lambda, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, and ECS. Apply infrastructure-as-code and modern CI/CD practices using technologies such as Terraform, Docker, and GitHub Actions. Lead backend engineering initiatives from technical design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation. Mentor other engineers, provide technical guidance, and contribute to architectural discussions and engineering standards. Build robust systems that account for failure scenarios, retries, idempotency, eventual consistency, and observability. Maintain a strong automated testing culture using tools such as pytest, moto, and containerized environments for functional testing. Collaborate closely with engineering colleagues in a distributed Agile/DevOps environment to break down complex problems, evaluate solutions, and deliver effectively. Contribute to continuous improvement of development practices, system architecture, reliability, and overall product quality. Requirements 5+ years of professional experience developing backend services with Python. 3+ years of experience leading backend engineering initiatives and mentoring other engineers. Strong experience designing, building, and operating distributed, event-driven systems, with a solid understanding of failure handling, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency. Advanced knowledge of relational databases and ORM technologies, including schema design, migrations, and query performance optimization; experience with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, and Alembic is highly relevant. Experience designing and evolving APIs consumed by customers and internal teams, preferably with GraphQL. Hands-on experience with AWS and serverless technologies such as Lambda, EventBridge, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, and ECS. Experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD practices, particularly Terraform, Docker, and GitHub Actions.
