Design and operate a scalable PostgreSQL cloud database platform with automation and observability.
Extensive PostgreSQL on Kubernetes experience, strong Golang and Linux skills, and database performance tuning expertise.
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer - Postgres Specialist based in United States. The Senior Platform Engineer will help build and operate a highly reliable cloud database platform centered on PostgreSQL. You will work across multiple layers of the technology stack to deliver seamless database experiences for customers. The role combines hands-on engineering, operational excellence, performance optimization, and feature development. You will investigate complex database performance challenges and improve the reliability and observability of large-scale Postgres workloads. The position offers the opportunity to design internal systems and tooling that make stateful database operations more scalable and efficient. You will collaborate closely with experienced engineers in a globally distributed, remote-first environment built around direct communication and accountability. This is a full-time remote opportunity for a senior engineer passionate about PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure, and high-performance data systems. \n Accountabilities: Design and implement cloud features that improve the PostgreSQL database experience across multiple layers of the platform. Develop reliable solutions for managing dynamic, stateful PostgreSQL workloads at scale. Work extensively with Kubernetes to orchestrate and operate large fleets of Postgres and Timescale instances. Ensure operational excellence, reliability, performance, and observability across the database platform. Investigate complex production and customer-facing database performance issues. Analyze workload behavior and identify opportunities for database and infrastructure optimization. Tune PostgreSQL parameters and configurations to improve performance, stability, and resource utilization. Optimize PostgreSQL workloads across diverse use cases and operating conditions. Build internal systems, services, and tooling that simplify the management of PostgreSQL at scale. Contribute to platform architecture and engineering decisions related to cloud database operations. Develop automation that improves the consistency, scalability, and efficiency of database management. Collaborate closely with engineers across the platform to deliver reliable end-to-end database experiences. Diagnose and resolve challenging operational issues affecting cloud database instances. Improve monitoring, observability, and operational processes across the database fleet. Contribute to the PostgreSQL ecosystem through core PostgreSQL work or open-source tooling. Help establish engineering practices that support scalable, resilient, and maintainable database infrastructure. Participate in a collaborative engineering environment focused on direct communication, accountability, and continuous improvement. Requirements: Extensive experience operating and orchestrating dynamic, stateful PostgreSQL workloads at scale. Strong hands-on experience running PostgreSQL workloads on Kubernetes. Deep knowledge of Golang and experience using Go to build production systems and services. Strong Linux expertise and familiarity with operating complex database infrastructure in Linux environments. Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, and operational behavior. Demonstrated experience analyzing database performance and diagnosing complex performance issues. Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL parameter tuning and workload optimization techniques. Proven track record of building internal systems, services, or tools for managing PostgreSQL at scale. Experience working with database observability, monitoring, and operational tooling. Contributions to the PostgreSQL ecosystem, either through core PostgreSQL or open-source tooling. Strong systems-thinking skills and the ability to work across infrastructure, databases, and application layers. Ability to investigate ambiguous technical problems and develop practical, scalable solutions. Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience designing maintainable production systems. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with distributed engineering teams. High level of ownership, accountability, and attention to operational reliability. Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies; previous experience with every technology in the existing stack is not required. Ability to work effectively in a remote-first, globally distributed environment. Benefits: Fully remote work opportunity in the United States. Flexible paid time off. Comprehensive family leave. Fridays off during August. Stock options supporting long-term participation in the organization’s growth. Monthly WiFi stipend. Professional development and educational resources. Premium insurance options for U.S.-based employees and their families. Opportunity to work with PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, AWS, Go, Docker, Python, and modern data technologies. Collaborative environment with direct communication and opportunities to work alongside experienced engineers. Exposure to large-scale cloud database infrastructure, real-time analytics, vector search, and modern PostgreSQL workloads. \n How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
