This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Lead Software Systems Engineer in the United States. In this senior-level role, you will provide advanced technical leadership in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems supporting mission-critical operations. You will work at the intersection of software architecture, systems engineering, and technical strategy to deliver high-impact solutions for government and defense initiatives. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will define technical specifications, guide project execution, and ensure compliance with security and interoperability standards. This position offers the opportunity to shape system architectures that meet today’s demands while anticipating tomorrow’s challenges. Accountabilities: Lead the design and implementation of software and systems architecture, integrating hardware, software, and communications components. Define specifications for complex operating software applications and oversee modification or maintenance of existing systems. Ensure all systems adhere to Department of Defense (DoD) standards, open systems compliance, and cross-functional interoperability. Collaborate with project management teams to plan schedules, technical direction, and resource allocation. Develop system design documentation, including diagrams, coding, testing, debugging, and validation protocols. Provide technical mentorship and review the work of engineering teams to maintain high performance and quality standards. Conduct quality assurance reviews, evaluate emerging software technologies, and oversee ongoing system maintenance. Support all phases of software systems programming and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes. Minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering and software development, with proven leadership in complex technical environments. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; relevant technical certifications from recognized authorities preferred. Experience in software design, coding, debugging, and integration within secure and large-scale systems. Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and align technical execution with project objectives. Strong understanding of system interoperability, open architecture principles, and DoD technical standards. Excellent analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and quality. Active DoD Secret Security Clearance required.
