This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Data Platform Engineer (Staff / Sr Staff) in Europe. This role is critical for shaping how the organization accesses, understands, and leverages its data at scale. The Data Platform Engineer will design and implement infrastructure, interfaces, and tooling that empower engineers, data scientists, and ML teams to efficiently discover, analyze, and utilize data across the company. As a foundational hire, this position offers significant autonomy to define data cataloging, lineage, access patterns, and self-serve capabilities, influencing the future of the company’s data ecosystem. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-growing, remote-first environment, collaborates across teams, and brings expertise in modern data stacks, metadata management, and platform engineering. This role directly supports the company’s mission to optimize renewable energy assets and accelerate decarbonization. Accountabilities: • Design and implement data cataloging infrastructure to make datasets discoverable, understandable, and connected. • Build lineage capabilities that allow teams to trace data provenance and flow across systems. • Develop consistent data access patterns and libraries for engineers, data scientists, and ML teams. • Create self-serve tooling to reduce friction in data discovery and usage. • Contribute to the development of the company’s data ontology, ensuring alignment with platform infrastructure. • Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure platform infrastructure complements data pipelines. • Gather cross-team feedback to identify pain points and prioritize platform improvements. • Stay updated with best practices and innovations in data platform infrastructure, applying them to enhance internal systems. • Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to operational excellence across the data platform. Requirements: • 7+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on data infrastructure. • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL. • Experience with modern data stack technologies such as Databricks, Spark, dbt, or similar. • Proven ability to design and build internal platforms, frameworks, or libraries for other engineers. • Familiarity with data cataloging, metadata management, or lineage tools (e.g., DataHub, Amundsen, Unity Catalog, OpenLineage). • Experience with orchestration tools such as Dagster or Airflow. • Excellent collaboration skills for working in distributed, remote-first teams across multiple time zones. • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities. • Experience or enthusiasm for AI-assisted development. • Nice to have: experience as an early member of a data platform team, AWS infrastructure familiarity, self-serve tooling development, data modeling, or supporting ML/Data Science teams. Benefits: • Competitive base salary with meaningful equity grants. • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, and retirement plan options. • Unlimited vacation and flexible work schedules. • Opportunities for accelerated professional growth through mentorship and collaboration with industry experts. • Remote-first work environment with a collaborative and inclusive culture. • Exposure to cutting-edge technology and large-scale energy and climate impact projects.
