This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Engineering Manager based in United States. This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity focused on building and scaling the backend foundations of a critical cybersecurity platform. You will lead a team responsible for microservices, data-processing pipelines, APIs, and distributed platform capabilities. The role combines hands-on technical depth with people leadership, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration. You will help shape backend architecture while ensuring reliability, scalability, and strong production support. The environment is remote-first, mission-driven, and highly collaborative, with teams working across multiple regions. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping protect critical infrastructure and the systems communities rely on every day. \n Accountabilities Lead the backend engineering team and promote a strong, healthy technical community, with a focus on engineering excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Mentor engineers and support their technical development, career progression, and long-term growth through regular coaching and guidance. Own and champion the technical vision and execution of backend platform capabilities, including streaming data ingestion, detection processing, baseline learning, asset reconciliation, core APIs, and platform coordination. Guide the design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing evolution of production-grade backend systems built around microservice architectures. Partner closely with technical leads and Product Managers to translate product objectives into scalable and reliable engineering solutions. Provide technical leadership throughout software development and release processes, helping teams make sound architectural and implementation decisions. Foster strong relationships across engineering leadership and encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration between technical teams. Ensure backend systems receive effective support in production, stepping in when needed to assist with development, incident triage, troubleshooting, and complex technical issues. Contribute to the continued evolution of platform architecture, engineering practices, and technical strategy. Requirements 7+ years of experience building and leading technical engineering teams, with a demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams and mentor engineers. 5+ years of experience developing software or leading teams working with microservice architectures and distributed backend systems. Strong hands-on software engineering background with deep fundamentals in backend architecture, distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and production-grade development. Strong proficiency in systems-level or backend programming; experience with Rust is strongly preferred, along with the ability and willingness to adopt modern languages and architectures. Experience leading engineering work within agile, cross-functional environments and collaborating effectively with product and technical stakeholders. Familiarity with technologies such as Apache Flink, RabbitMQ, or HashiCorp Vault is an advantage. Ability to remain technically engaged and contribute directly when necessary, including occasional development, troubleshooting, incident response, or technical triage. Experience in cybersecurity, operational technology (OT), or industrial control systems (ICS) environments is highly desirable. Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, and relationship-building skills, combined with sound technical and business judgment. Ability to balance strategic engineering leadership with sufficient technical depth to influence architecture and solve complex problems. Benefits $220,000 annual salary. Competitive equity package. Comprehensive benefits plan. Remote-first working environment. Opportunity to lead backend engineering initiatives supporting critical infrastructure cybersecurity. Meaningful work focused on protecting systems that communities and organizations depend on. Collaborative environment built around authenticity, transparency, and trust. Career development and opportunities to mentor and grow engineering talent. Equal employment opportunity and consideration for qualified applicants regardless of legally protected characteristics. Employment is subject to a background check. \n How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
