This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Backend Engineer - Feature Flags in the United States. As a Backend Engineer on the Feature Flags team, you will design, build, and optimize a high-performance service that delivers real-time feature evaluations for millions of users. You will work on the critical path of customer applications, ensuring ultra-low latency, reliability, and scalability. This role offers the opportunity to own services end-to-end, influence architectural decisions, and implement innovative solutions for complex, distributed systems. You will collaborate with a distributed engineering team across multiple time zones, applying cutting-edge technologies like Rust and Python while constantly improving performance and observability. This is a high-impact role where your work directly shapes the user experience and the efficiency of production systems. Accountabilities: Design, develop, and maintain the feature flags evaluation engine end-to-end. Optimize service performance to achieve millisecond-level response times under high load. Build scalable and reliable systems handling millions of requests per minute. Collaborate with distributed engineering teams to implement new targeting features and address customer-specific needs. Profile applications, implement caching strategies, and fine-tune data access patterns to reduce latency. Ensure code quality, observability, and API usability for both internal and external developers. Participate in performance benchmarking, production monitoring, and incident resolution when required. Strong experience with backend systems and programming languages such as Python, Rust, or similar. Proven ability to build high-throughput, low-latency services (millions of requests per minute). Solid understanding of distributed systems, performance optimization techniques, and caching strategies. Experience designing APIs and creating clean, maintainable, and scalable architecture. Comfortable making high-level architecture decisions and rapidly implementing solutions. Familiarity with observability systems, benchmarking, and profiling tools. Experience with feature flag systems or real-time decision engines is a plus. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and complex technical challenges.
