Technical Writer - OUSD Join to apply for the Technical Writer - OUSD role at JMark Services, Inc. Base pay range $75,000.00/yr - $81,000.00/yr Location: Pentagon / National Capital Region Clearance: TS/SCI Required Client: Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research & Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) Position Type: Full-Time, Onsite Position Overview JMark is seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to provide research, communication, and presentation development support to senior leadership within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research & Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical abilities, advanced writing skills, and expertise in producing clear, concise, and accurate communication materials tailored to multiple audiences. Key Responsibilities Produce high-quality written materials, including speeches, reports, point papers, presentations, and briefs. Conduct research on major technical issues, emerging technologies, policy areas, and defense innovation trends. Analyze information, identify key issues, and develop clear and accurate messaging aligned with organizational priorities. Create dynamic, well-structured PowerPoint presentations and multimedia products suitable for senior-level audiences. Track complex issues through to resolution and respond promptly to inquiries, taskers, and correspondence. Write speeches and communication products that align with leadership priorities and are tailored to target audiences. Coordinate speaking engagements and related logistics, ensuring the accuracy and readiness of all presentation materials. Interface professionally with senior DoD officials and stakeholders, providing clear messaging recommendations. Produce communication products across a variety of platforms and styles, including formal speeches, executive-level presentations, articles, blogs, videos, letters, op-eds, bylined pieces, social media content, and digital communications. Ensure all materials reflect organizational voice, mission priorities, and strategic communication plans. Tailor messages for diverse audiences, including DoD leadership, internal staff, external partners, media, academic communities, and industry. Align messaging with OUSD(R&E) strategic communication objectives and broader organizational initiatives. Advise leadership on communication strategies, key themes, and message delivery. Meet regularly with government customers to review requirements, provide updates, and refine messaging strategies. Maintain awareness of ongoing program discussions, technical developments, and emerging issues relevant to the organization. Qualifications Active TS/SCI clearance required. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, Public Policy, or related field. 5–10+ years of experience in technical writing or strategic communications within DoD or federal environments. Demonstrated ability to convey complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language. Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and related multimedia applications. Strong critical thinking, research, and analytical skills. Experience engaging with senior executives and producing high-visibility communication products. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
