The Onboarding Specialist prepares and updates onboarding materials, manages workflows, and leads virtual orientation sessions for new volunteers. They also monitor onboarding progress and gather feedback to improve the experience.
Candidates should have an interest in HR or nonprofit operations and possess strong organizational skills. A commitment of approximately 20 hours per week is required.
Overview This is a pro-bono unpaid volunteer position. JerseySTEM has an exciting unpaid internship opportunity for individuals able to commit ~20 hours/week for at least one month, renewable indefinitely. Under the direction of the Onboarding Team Lead and the Head of Human Capital, the Onboarding Specialist helps design, deliver, and continuously improve JerseySTEM’s modular onboarding program so every new volunteer feels confident, connected, and ready to contribute. If you are pursuing or hold a degree in a related field or have equivalent experience, and are interested in HR, learning & development, or nonprofit operations and willing/able to commit 20 hours/week or more, then send us your resume. For more information about this internship opportunity, please click here. Responsibilities Prepare, maintain, and update onboarding materials, guides, and process documentation. Create and manage workflows in our onboarding tool, Enboarder. Partner with department leaders to adapt onboarding for specific roles. Lead engaging virtual orientation sessions for new volunteers. Monitor onboarding progress, ensure required steps are completed, and follow up as needed. Gather and analyze feedback from new joiners to improve the experience. Participate in weekly Onboarding Team meetings and other relevant online sessions. Qualifications Interest in HR, learning and development, or nonprofit program management. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Comfortable facilitating virtual sessions and engaging online groups. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment. Tech-savvy, with the ability to learn new tools quickly. Reliable, accountable, and results-driven. Clear, friendly communicator (written and verbal).
