Itron is seeking a Contract - Principal UX Designer to lead user experience strategy and execution for a high-impact enterprise initiative. This contract role offers the opportunity to shape the future of smart utility solutions for global energy and water systems. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to drive user-centered design, introduce scalable UX frameworks, and deliver intuitive experiences for complex enterprise platforms. Duties and Responsibilities: Lead UX strategy and execution for a global enterprise SaaS solution focused on energy and water device management. Conduct and synthesize user research to inform design decisions and improve user understanding across diverse personas. Develop end-to-end task flows from low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes using Figma, ensuring scalability and consistency through component libraries. Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and senior leadership to align UX efforts with business goals and agile development cycles. Advocate for customer-centric design by continuously refining existing experiences to enhance usability and satisfaction. Facilitate efficient design handoffs and contribute to the evolution of design systems and patterns. Apply innovative thinking to solve complex, ambiguous design challenges with clarity and empathy. Ensure accessibility is embedded in all design outputs. Required Skills & Experience: 10+ years of experience in UX design and research, preferably within enterprise SaaS or technology platforms. Proven ability to lead UX efforts across large-scale, cross-functional initiatives. Expertise in user research methodologies and translating insights into actionable design deliverables. Advanced proficiency in Figma, including component libraries and design systems. Strong communication and collaboration skills with stakeholders at all levels. Experience working in agile environments and adapting design to team velocity and technical constraints. Demonstrated commitment to customer-centric, accountable, and agile design practices. Preferred Skills & Experience: Experience in the Utilities or Energy sector, particularly with smart grid or IoT solutions. Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design principles. Background in solution architecture or systems thinking. Experience mentoring or guiding junior designers and researchers. Travel: 0 – 10% Physical Demands This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment. The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience and may vary by location.
