Provide technical leadership and design scalable data pipelines integrating AI workflows for the Data Platform team.
8+ years software engineering with data platform and technical leadership experience, Databricks or lakehouse architecture, and AI-driven systems expertise required.
ABOUT INVOCA Invoca is an AI-powered revenue execution platform that brings together marketing, commerce, and contact center teams to turn every customer interaction into measurable, profitable growth. Join our dynamic, fast-growing team, where innovation and collaboration are at the core of our culture. ABOUT THE ROLE At Invoca, AI is central to our engineering strategy. We are cultivating an agentic development ecosystem where artificial intelligence serves as an integral core partner in designing, building, testing, launching, and managing software. The Data Platform team builds and innovates on Invoca's core data infrastructure and analysis tooling. Teams across the company depend on it to turn call and SMS conversations, and the marketing signals around them, into reliable, near real-time intelligence. We also supply the context the AI agents across Invoca's platform run on, and we work on the Data Intelligence products that put that data to work for customers. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for the Data Platform team. In this role, you will help establish strategic technical direction and drive the team's rolling 3-month delivery plan, turning roadmap goals into executable, high-impact releases. Success here is measured by outcomes, not activity: how reliable and timely our data is, how quickly downstream teams can build on the platform, and how consistently the team's plan turns into delivered work. WHAT YOU'LL DO: BUILD THE DATA PLATFORM * Define and evolve the technical vision for Invoca's data platform across all product teams. * Design and build the ingestion, streaming, and transformation pipelines that bring call and SMS conversation data and marketing signals into the lakehouse. * Evolve the lakehouse architecture and the core data analysis tooling teams use to explore, query, and report on that data. * Ensure product teams can safely and easily build on our data without deep data infrastructure expertise. * Continuously identify where shared platform investments can unlock new product capabilities or eliminate duplicated engineering effort. LEAD THROUGH TECHNICAL INFLUENCE & OWN THE 3-MONTH DELIVERY PLAN * Provide overarching architectural direction for the Data Platform across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers while raising the engineering bar through mentoring, design reviews, and hands-on guidance. * Own and execute the rolling 3-month delivery plan: translate roadmap strategy into clear priorities, navigate ambiguity, and maintain full accountability for shipping high-impact technical outcomes. * Drive alignment across engineering and product teams through clear technical reasoning, simplifying complex systems, and serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. MAKE OUR DATA THE CONTEXT LAYER FOR INVOCA'S AGENTS * Build the systems that let the AI agents running in Invoca's platform use our data as context — retrieval, freshness, structure, and governance of the data those agents depend on. * Work on Invoca's Data Intelligence products, like Atlas, our data agent, turning platform capability into intelligence customers can act on. * Define clean boundaries and contracts between the data platform and the agent and product teams that build on it. BUILD IN THE AGENTIC DEVELOPMENT ERA * Use AI and agentic workflows in how the team builds and operates the platform: agent-assisted development, adaptive pipeline orchestration, automated data quality checks, anomaly detection, and self-healing jobs. * Establish safe, observable, and auditable ways to bring AI into how we build and run data workflows, and help the teams around you adopt them with confidence. STANDARDIZE AND MULTIPLY ENGINEERING LEVERAGE * Build shared data platform practices, tooling, and self-service capability (pipeline frameworks, data contracts, lakehouse standards) that other teams adopt instead of one-off approaches. * Treat the data platform as a product with internal users: define adoption goals and measure whether teams are actually better off because of your work. * Drive direction and standards for data architecture and pipeline design across the teams that depend on the platform, influencing through clarity, judgment, and evidence. CONNECT THE PLATFORM TO BUSINESS OUTCOMES * Translate data platform decisions into terms leadership and product teams care about: data freshness, reliability, cost, and the speed at which downstream teams can ship. * Partner directly with product engineering, analytics, and data science teams — the platform's primary internal customers — to prioritize the 3-month plan based on measurable business and customer impact, not technical elegance alone. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: We're looking for a Staff-level engineer with the experience and judgment to take on technical leadership for our Data Platform team. You likely have: * 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in data platform, infrastructure, or backend systems, and a track record of measurable impact in production environments. * Proven technical leadership background: establishing team vision and architecture, managing an iterative delivery roadmap, and taking accountability for successful releases. * Hands-on experience with Databricks or a comparable lakehouse platform, plus modern pipeline orchestration tooling, strongly preferred. * Experience serving data to AI systems as context — retrieval, embeddings, feature or context serving, or similar — is a strong plus. * Experience building data systems, tools, or practices that were adopted broadly because they demonstrably improved speed, quality, reliability, or safety. * Experience building AI tools and agentic workflows, and a track record of practically applying new tools rather than just being interested in them. * Strong technical judgment with a bias toward simplicity and adoption over theoretical completeness. * Ability to connect technical work to business and customer outcomes, and to communicate that connection clearly. * Experience partnering across engineering, product, and business functions. * High ownership mindset, curiosity, and urgency in a fast-moving, evolving technical environment. HOW YOU WORK: * Direct and kind. You say the hard thing in the room, not afterward, and you receive feedback the same way. * High agency. You act without waiting for permission on reversible decisions and own the outcome either way. No work is beneath you. * You raise the bar. You think from first principles rather than accepting how things have been done, and you don't reward work that's merely fine. * You make it safe to not know. A high bar and a safe team are not in tension — people have to be able to ask, dissent, and be wrong without paying for it, or you never hear the thing you needed to hear. Nobody is made small for the gap between where they are and where the bar is. * You bring intensity. Deadlines in days where the work allows, a rough first version to get real feedback, risk flagged early, and you finish what you start. * You dig for the real problem. When someone asks for something, you understand what they're trying to accomplish before responding. HOW SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED: Within 12 months, success in this role will look like: * The data platform shows clear, measurable improvement in the outcomes it's meant to drive: data quality, reliability, delivery speed, and architectural coherence. * Practices or platforms you've built are adopted broadly across engineering, not just within your immediate team. * AI and agentic workflows are meaningfully integrated into the data platform, with clear safety and observability in place. * Engineering and product leadership treat you as a trusted authority in the data platform domain. * Your work has a demonstrable, articulable connection to business or customer outcomes. 📍 Location: This is a remote-first role.
