Operate and maintain the Armor Inspection System, perform troubleshooting and repairs, supervise technicians, manage mission logistics, and handle data processing and reporting.
High school diploma or GED, 3+ years recent experience in electrical and electronic troubleshooting, proficiency with Windows OS and Excel, ability to read mechanical drawings, active Secret security clearance, and willingness to travel extensively.
The NDTE Field Engineer will perform routine operation of the AIS, including system startup, operation, and shutdown in accordance with AIS Operation Policy. The FE will oversee setup and takedown of the AIS unit when participating in an NDTE Mobile Mission and assist in setup and takedown of the HELAMS shelter (in preparation for transportation) if applicable. Responsible for scheduling and performing preventive and corrective maintenance procedures in accordance with AIS Policy. Works with CONUS based AIS Development Team Engineers as needed to accomplish diagnostic trouble shooting operation and repairs to ensure the AIS system performs as designed. FE offloads AIS data as needed and in accordance with AIS Operation Policy, and transfer data to central CONUS AIS Data Accumulation location via drop shipments in secure tamper proof cases. FE will also act as second to NDTE Team Lead, and, in their absence onsite, be acting Team Lead to ensure mission integrity. FE will compile daily and weekly operation data which includes processing totals categorized by disposition, size, and source. The FE is expected to be fluent in the NDTE Technician duties and assist as needed to maintain positive processing momentum. Essential Job Functions: ((not limited to duties as described – performs related duties as requested) Support and occasionally supervise a small team of personnel to conduct non-destructive testing of body armor plates. Set up and initialize Armor Inspection System (AIS). Operate the AIS system. Troubleshoot and diagnose performance issues on the AIS. Performing preventive and corrective maintenance procedures in accordance with AIS Policy. Offload data as needed and in accordance with the AIS Operation Policy. Unpacking and packing body armor plates. Conduct minor cosmetic repairs to body armor plates using the External Material Defect (EMD) Kit. Supervise NDTE Technicians in the absence of a Team Lead; to include organizing and managing the mission; developing and submitting daily/weekly reports as applicable to the program. Ensure the AIS is securely loaded and packaged for transportation at the end of each mission. Field Engineers will be familiar with all job functions of the NDTE Technician. Education & Experience: (or equivalent) HS Graduate or GED At least 3 years of previous experience, within the last 5 years, performing general electrical control and electronic troubleshooting, and circuit-level troubleshooting and system-level control wiring troubleshooting. At least 3 years of previous experience, within the last 5 years, with current Microsoft Windows operating systems, including the use of basic Microsoft Operating Systems commands. Ability to read and utilize mechanical drawings and manuals. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel to view database tables. TRAVEL: Expect to travel 95% of the time. Lengthy periods of deployment to CONUS locations and occasional OCONUS deployments.
