Position: Principal React Engineer The Principal React Engineer will join the Engineering department to lead our front-end development efforts. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of our VR training platform. You will be responsible for leading the development of cutting-edge web applications using React and TypeScript, while also supporting engineering teams building customer products and internal tooling. This role requires a seasoned architect with a strong product mindset, who can effectively mentor team members, ensure code quality, and communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Support engineering teams building innovative products for Interplay customers as well as engineering teams building tooling for Interplay’s simulation design team. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, architect, and ship high-quality software solutions. Mentor and guide team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Ensure code quality through best practices, testing, and code reviews. Review MRs and communicate code improvements empathetically. Extend expertise to mobile development and VR applications. Who you are: Seasoned Frontend Engineer who’s deeply experienced with React and TypeScript, and has used a variety of frontend frameworks and libraries throughout their career - including jQuery. Strong product mindset; comfortable digging into the how and why of the user journey to arrive at the best technical solutions Experienced architect in frontend architectural approaches including monorepos, Micro Frontends, meta frameworks, and BFF. Clear and empathetic communicator who can understand complex technical applications and proactively communicate interconnected dependencies and architectural approach implications to non-technical stakeholders. Cognizant engineer who’s attuned to the frontend (React) ecosystem, and can suggest modern ideas and tooling that support Interplay’s engineering goals. Practiced in using AI tooling with discretion, ideally familiarity with MCP and evaluating LLMs Effective time manager able to balance shipping individual contributor work while serving as an architect and mentor for multi-squad org. Requirements: 7+ years of proven expertise in web development, with a track record of successfully delivering web applications preferably related to education, eLearning or ecommerce. In-depth knowledge of React and TypeScript, RTK Query, Tanstack, threeJS, and with a preference for experience in JQuery for maintenance of existing tools and migration, and Rest API. Experience working in Agile and SCRUM software development practices and leading architectural decisions across multiple SCRUM teams. Proven experience in building web applications for mobile devices. Formal training in a relevant software development or computer science course, or equivalent practical experience that can be demonstrated. Strong communication skills in English, facilitating effective collaboration with team members and the ability to delegate tasks appropriately when necessary. Practical ability to write clear, concise, and readable code and documentation. Experience in testing practices including unit and E2E testing. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
