Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) Remote | Headquarters: Alexandria, VA About the Mattress Recycling Council The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is a nonprofit organization that operates recycling programs in states that have enacted mattress recycling laws. Founded by the bedding industry, MRC recycles more than 1.7 million mattresses each year through its statewide collection networks known to consumers as Bye Bye Mattress. For more information, visit www.MattressRecyclingCouncil.org. MRC was established by the International Sleep Products Association (ISPA), the trade association for the mattress industry. Position Summary MRC seeks a part-time Senior Counsel to support its mattress recycling programs in California, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Oregon. This remote position will assist the General Counsel with day-to-day legal needs, including reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts; providing legal research and analysis; and advising on corporate governance and other legal matters. Key Responsibilities • Draft and negotiate complex contracts with MRC program partners, including municipal governments • Review, draft, and negotiate vendor and consulting agreements • Provide legal guidance to field staff in support of program operations • Conduct legal research and analysis • Support a range of other legal and corporate needs as directed by General Counsel Qualifications • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active admission to a state bar • Active bar membership in good standing in resident jurisdiction and eligibility to practice as Corporate Counsel in Virginia • 2–4 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a corporate, government, or nonprofit environment • Experience with California or Oregon law strongly preferred • Demonstrated experience in contract drafting and negotiation • Ability to work independently and remotely while maintaining a consistent schedule • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and written/oral communication abilities • Familiarity with Salesforce or contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems preferred • Experience or interest in product stewardship programs or environmental law a plus Compensation & Schedule This is a part-time position, working approximately 20–24 hours per week. 💵 Compensation: Ranging from $75-$90/hour How to Apply Please submit a resume and cover letter outlining your relevant experience and interest in the role to opportunities@mrc-us.org Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
