Job Description General Summary: The primary function of the Certified Medical Assistant/Mental Health Tech is to ensure patient safety at our inpatient facility. This role operates as an active part of the treatment and research team, providing continuous care, supervision, and interaction to patients currently enrolled in our inpatient clinical trial. The Certified Medical Assistant/Mental Health Tech works under direct supervision of the Overnight Unit Facility Supervisor, Clinical Research Coordinators, and Principal Investigator in charge of running the clinical trial. Shift: One shift currently available for overnights Please review the shift availability below: 24 Hour facility Essential Duties and Responsibilities - This list is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the inpatient facility. • Ability to interact therapeutically with patients and provide adequate supervision at all times during shift. • Provides care to patients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and a therapeutic environment. • Assists patients with activities of daily living; attends to patient behavioral problems and provides assistance in intervention, as needed primarily utilizing de-escalation tactics. • Conduct 15 minute checks; document appropriately and accurately. • Charts patient observations, following prescribed procedures and standards. This requires acute observation skills to determine changes in patient behaviors. • Collect blood and PK samples, prepare and process appropriately by following Lab Manuals specific to each clinical trial. Store specimens accordingly/prepare for shipment. • Complete necessary lab requisitions specific to each clinical trial. • Take vital signs and collect urine specimens, document accordingly. · • Assist in admission and discharge of patients. • Follow daily checklist of assigned duties and follow daily activity schedule for patients. • Responsible for general upkeep of inpatient facility this includes, but is not limited to: taking out the trash and replacing trash liners, sweeping, mopping, cleaning and wiping down hard surfaces and/or windows of the nurses/tech station, cleaning outside areas, ensuring patient rooms are kept clean and linens are washed and changed regularly, washing and drying patients scrubs, etc. • Responsible for ensuring patients keep up with their general hygiene and overall cleanliness of themselves and their room. • Ability to stand, walk, and provide daily care for patients. • Supervision of meal times. Tech may be responsible or assist in the preparation and delivery of meals, specifically during weekend shifts. • Work in unison with Clinical Research Coordinators, Nurses, Management, and Principal Investigator to ensure clinical trial protocol is followed at all times. • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Required Education • High school diploma or equivalent required. • CPR and SAMA required (employer provided). • CMA highly preferred. Experience • Minimum 1 year providing direct patient care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders is required, preferably in a behavioral healthcare setting. • 2+ years of providing direct patient care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders is preferred, preferably in a behavioral healthcare setting.
