Who we are looking for As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will take full ownership of complex, full-stack features within Appia®, our flagship construction administration solution. We are looking for a developer who looks beyond the code to understand the "why" behind the business logic; someone who can translate intricate construction workflows into intuitive, reliable software. You will champion high engineering standards, writing production-grade code while collaborating across teams to ensure our solutions are scalable, secure, and truly helpful to the people building our nation’s infrastructure. What will you do in this role? • Collaborate with peers, product, and design teams to balance user experience, business goals, and rapid delivery of new features. • Write clean, testable, and secure code while adhering to shared engineering standards. • Take full ownership of medium-to-large features, maintaining high standards for design and data integrity while delivering a polished experience. • Break down ambiguous user stories into clear, manageable technical sub-tasks, balancing speed of delivery with long-term architectural health. • Support and evolve existing features, keeping them reliable, secure, and aligned with modern practices while balancing delivery of new features. • Ensure high-quality releases by conducting thorough testing and collaborating closely with support teams to rapidly resolve production issues and refine user experience. • Mentor junior developers and participate in code reviews, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous technical improvement. • Collaborate across teams to expand the use of AI-assisted development tools and explore new ways to integrate them into daily workflows. The technologies needed for this role We are currently looking for engineers familiar with using AWS, Ruby on Rails and JavaScript, but we know that quality hires can learn new technology quickly when needed, so don’t be deterred if you’re not an expert in every single item listed below! You must have • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field and 3 year relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. We would like you to have • 5+ years experience with full stack development. • Experience building software for complex industries (e.g., construction systems). • A background in building workflow management tools.
