Oversee and supervise Behavioral Intervention Specialist staff including hiring, training, monitoring performance, providing direct services, and coordinating with agency leadership and committees.
Master's degree in psychology (Ph.D. preferred), 5-10 years psychological experience with supervisory background in MRDD field, and valid New York State psychologist certification.
Function/Skills: Provide oversight, direction, training and supervision to Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) staff. Responsibilities: • Recruit, hire and train new BIS staff. Provide on-site training to new BIS staff. This includes: required paperwork, documentation, in-service training to Direct Support Professional, consumer observations, IDT process, writing behavioral support programs, ongoing services, psychiatric consultation, and psychotropic medication. • Monitor BIS on job performance. Including, but not limited to, required paperwork, documentation, in-service training, consumer observations, IDT process, behavioral support programs, ongoing services, psychiatric consultation, and psychotropic medication. • Observe consumer/staff interaction when in residence and provide immediate feedback. • Provide BIS services in the residences when necessary and to cover for any absences or vacancies. • Available to Agency 24/7 via pager to address psychiatric or behavioral concerns. • Write monthly report for Agency’s Leadership Meeting to inform administrators of urgent psychology department issues. • Chair monthly Human Rights Committee. Provide emergency approvals when urgent reviews are required. • Member of Independent Living Association’s monthly Incident Review Committee. • Monitor BIS staff time and attendance; collect and approve bi-monthly time sheet, approve time-off requests. Report BIS absences monthly to Human Resources Department. (3 days in a row report to HR.) • Approve any expenses incurred by BIS staff, including travel, cell phone usage, consumer specific reinforcement programs, including token economy. • Maintain ongoing communication with Agency administration regarding sensitive situations: behavioral issues, psychiatric de-compensation or hospitalizations. • Any other duties as described by Director of Operations. Qualifications: • Masters in Psychology required, Ph. D. in Psychology preferred. • Five to ten years (5-10) of experience working in a psychological capacity. Previous supervisory experience in MRDD field required. • A currently valid certificate as a psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education required.
