Senior Chromium Engineer Duration: 6 months Location: US Remote (EST preferred) Interview Process: 2 rounds (culture fit + live coding/pairing session using AI tools) 💼 About the Role: You’ll be part of a cross-functional team (Product, Design, Engineering) building a next-generation AI-powered browser across Desktop (macOS/Windows), iOS, and Android. This role specifically focuses on the Desktop platform, where you’ll act as the Chromium expert, working closely with engineers building features and AI integrations. 🔧 Key Responsibilities: • Develop and maintain browser features and UI components on top of the Chromium codebase • Debug complex issues related to rendering, networking, multi-process architecture, and system integration • Optimize browser performance, memory usage, and responsiveness • Work in a fast-paced environment with weekly releases and demos • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and help guide others on Chromium-related topics 🤖 Development Approach: • The team follows an AI-first development model • You’ll use tools like Claude Code / Codex for coding (no traditional manual coding) • Focus is on leveraging AI agents effectively while providing technical direction and validation 📊 Success Metrics: • Quality and stability of code (CI pass rate, low regression) • Feature delivery within weekly release cycles • Ability to troubleshoot and unblock team members • Contribution to performance and stability improvements ✅ Must-Have Skills: • 6+ years of software engineering experience • Strong C++ programming skills • Hands-on experience working directly with the Chromium codebase (forking, patching, or building browsers) • Experience with Chromium tools like GN/Ninja, depot_tools, gclient • Ability to work with large-scale codebases ⭐ Nice to Have: • Experience with Chromium-based browsers (Brave, Edge, Opera, etc.) • Background in performance optimization or browser internals • Experience with CI/CD and developer tooling ⚠️ Important Notes: • Must be comfortable with AI-driven coding workflows (mandatory) • Fast-moving, low-process environment (weekly shipping cycles) • Requires strong ownership, adaptability, and collaboration
