Description Role Overview: The Legacy Systems Engineer provides specialized support for maintaining, modernizing, and migrating legacy AIX and Solaris–based systems. This role focuses on understanding complex, non-Windows environments and supporting their transition into modern cloud or hybrid infrastructures while ensuring system stability, security, and continuity of operations. Key Responsibilities • Support the assessment and migration of AIX and Solaris–based applications and infrastructure from on-premises or legacy hosting environments to modern cloud or hybrid platforms • Perform system and dependency discovery to identify technical risks, constraints, and modernization opportunities • Develop and execute migration and cutover plans, including lift-and-shift and re-platforming approaches where appropriate • Provide hands-on system administration support for AIX and Solaris environments during migration and stabilization phases • Support post-migration stabilization, performance tuning, and configuration hardening • Collaborate with cloud engineers, architects, security, and DevOps teams to ensure legacy systems integrate cleanly into modern environments • Assist with documentation and knowledge transfer, enabling long-term operational support by internal teams • Provide surge or after-hours support during critical migration or cutover windows when required Requirements Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience) • 5+ years of experience supporting or migrating enterprise systems, with hands-on experience in AIX and/or Solaris environments • Strong understanding of UNIX-based operating systems, virtualization, and enterprise infrastructure • Experience supporting system migrations to cloud or hybrid environments • Proficiency with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep) • Ability to work independently in complex, legacy environments and collaborate effectively across technical teams Preferred Qualifications • Experience supporting large-scale modernization or migration initiatives • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) • Relevant cloud or infrastructure certifications • Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments
