Full Description

Description ON-CALL 508 COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST The 508 Compliance Specialist will provide expert accessibility support to ensure documents, web products, and digital communications meet Section 508 and applicable WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) standards. This role is responsible for reviewing, testing, and remediating a variety of digital assets for compliance, and may be called upon to support urgent or ad hoc accessibility needs across the team. This position is ON-CALL, Part-Time with variable hours; assignments are made on a demand-response basis, so hours are completely variable. We are open to supporting 100% remote work anywhere within the US Key Responsibilities File Review: Review Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, and other digital documents for Section 508 compliance using automated tools and manual review. Document Remediation: Remediate documents to meet accessibility standards, including fixing tagging, alt text, color contrast, and structure issues. Web Accessibility Testing: Test web pages, web applications, and SCORM files for Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 AA compliance using tools such as ANDI, Axe, WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, and others. Reporting: Prepare accessibility evaluation reports, document findings, and recommend remediation strategies. Collaboration: Work with content creators, web developers, and project teams to embed accessibility best practices and provide technical guidance. Training & Guidance: Develop and maintain job aids and training materials to assist staff with accessible document creation. Continuous Improvement: Stay current on accessibility standards, tools, and best practices. Required Qualifications Certification: DHS Trusted Tester certification (v5.0 or higher). Education: High school degree. Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Section 508 compliance testing, document remediation, and web accessibility. Additional Qualifications We Expect You To Have Technical Skills: Expert-level proficiency with accessibility evaluation tools (ANDI, Axe, WAVE, JAWS, NVDA, Acrobat Pro, PAC2024, CommonLook, etc). Deep familiarity with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.0 AA standards. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly document findings and provide actionable recommendations. Organization: Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, on-call environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with federal accessibility requirements and government agency work. Experience developing and delivering accessibility training. Familiarity with web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and document creation tools. Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is: $60,927.00 - $103,576.00 Nationwide Remote Office (US99)
