Full Description

We’re looking for a skilled freelance video editor to help us create short-form videos for our social media channels. You’ll work closely with our editorial and audience teams to produce TikToks, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts that bring Spectrum’s journalism to life in fresh, engaging ways. Responsibilities • Edit short-form videos optimized for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, as well as paid content for Meta campaigns. • Collaborate with editors and producers to shape footage into compelling, story-driven content. • Add captions, graphics, sound design, and effects to maximize engagement and retention. • Adapt raw assets (on-site shoots, interviews, b-roll, motion graphics) into platform-specific formats. • Stay on top of social media trends, audio, and editing styles to keep Spectrum’s content relevant. • Deliver multiple edits quickly and efficiently, often with tight turnaround times. Requirements • Proven experience editing for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. • A strong portfolio with examples of videos that earned significant organic reach and engagement. • Expertise in editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar) and social-native editing tools. • Strong sense of pacing, visual storytelling, and social-first editing techniques. • Knowledge of platform best practices (aspect ratios, captions, audio trends, hooks). • Experience creating videos for paid ads on Facebook. • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate across teams. • Bonus: experience with science/tech content.
