The Director of Design Research is a senior leader responsible for championing a culture of research excellence across a multi product digital portfolio. In this role, you will guide strategic learning agendas, elevate research rigor and practice maturity, and influence decisions that shape the future of consumer digital experiences at Humana. You will lead, mentor, and inspire a team of skilled design researchers while partnering closely with leaders in Product, Marketing, Analytics, Engineering, and Strategy to ensure research drives measurable business and consumer outcomes. This role reports to the AVP of Design Research and operates in a highly collaborative, agile, and mission driven environment. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Planning Establish the 12‑month learning agenda and research strategy for a Consumer Digital portfolio. Lead quarterly research planning, identifying opportunities to inform strategic, generative, and evaluative work. Ensure alignment of research priorities with enterprise objectives, product roadmaps, and consumer needs. Research Excellence & Practice Stewardship Champion rigorous, human‑centered methodologies across contextual, generative, and evaluative research. Set and maintain standards for research quality, scalable processes, and consistent deliverables. Cultivate shared understanding through immersive insights, trend analyses, and continuous learning practices. Actionable Insights & Decision Influence Translate research findings into clear, actionable insights that shape product strategy, design decisions, and business outcomes. Drive prioritization of insights into opportunity areas and measurable experience improvements. Monitor experiences post‑launch using VOC and analytics tools to support ongoing iteration and impact assessment. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Collaborate with leaders across Product Management, Analytics, Engineering, Design, Marketing, and Business Strategy. Ensure that research is integrated throughout the product lifecycle and supports enterprise priorities. Serve as a strategic partner in framing problems, shaping hypotheses, and guiding solution direction. People Leadership & Team Development Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing research team. Provide strategic direction, professional development, and capability enablement. Foster a culture of curiosity, craft excellence, and inclusive collaboration. Enterprise Influence & Advocacy Promote evidence‑based decision‑making across the organization. Advocate for the value of design research and its impact on consumer experience, product success, and business strategy. Represent research at senior‑leadership levels, ensuring visibility and alignment. Use your skills to make an impact Required Qualifications 10+ years leading design research within innovation, human‑centered design, or digital product environments. 5+ years managing and developing design research professionals. Demonstrated expertise in research strategy, methodology selection, and multi‑method execution across the product lifecycle. Advanced education in a research‑related discipline (e.g., HCI, Psychology, Anthropology, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Design Strategy). Strong portfolio or work samples demonstrating research impact on product or business outcomes. Excellent communication, storytelling, facilitation, and problem‑solving capabilities. Experience working in agile environments and cross‑functional product teams. Deep passion for improving consumer experiences in healthcare and creating digital solutions that make a meaningful difference. Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required. Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc. $201,600 - $277,200 per year This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
