Work Locations acceptable: Milwaukee, WI (100%) onsite role Position Summary: Our client, a global leader in flow measurement, water quality monitoring, and smart infrastructure solutions is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead its organization through the next phase of innovation and growth. This role reports directly to the Executive Leadership Team and provides strategic and operational leadership across the full engineering function—including product development, R&D, systems, metrology, test, regulatory, and sustaining engineering. The Vice President will oversee a team of approximately 100 professionals responsible for the design, development, and delivery of high-performance products such as mechanical and static meters, AMR/AMI communication devices, flow and sensing technologies, and IoT-enabled water management systems. The Vice President will drive the company’s engineering strategy, project execution discipline, and innovation agenda in alignment with its mission to deliver scalable, high-accuracy, and sustainable technology solutions for municipal, commercial, and industrial water applications. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical depth with strategic vision, requiring a balance of business acumen, cross-functional collaboration, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will bring a proven record of leading large, multidisciplinary engineering teams, managing complex product lifecycles, and introducing emerging technologies that advance efficiency, reliability, and connectivity within the water or industrial technology sectors. Strong communication skills, disciplined process management, and a passion for sustainability are essential. Absolute Minimum Must Have’s / Experience / Requirements: • Bachelors degree in engineering or physical sciences. • 10+ years in progressively senior leadership roles with a track record of: • Managing large, multi-disciplinary engineering teams (75+ people) • Leading full product lifecycle efforts (concept, design, testing, manufacturing, market) • Driving innovation and implementing new technologies • Working cross functional with operations, manufacturing and commercial teams • Responsibility of a $15M+ budget • Proven ability to lead global or multi-site teams • Expert and working knowledge in mechanical, electrical, metrology and firmware engineering disciplines Preferred Experience: • Masters in engineering/ physical sciences of MBA preferred • Additional certifications in PMP, Lean Six Sigma preferred • Ideal experience includes experience with AWWA standards, flow measurement, IoT/AMI systems, PCBA design, predictive analytics, etc. Core Responsibilities: • Engineering Strategy Alignment • Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute the Company’s engineering strategy in alignment with corporate objectives, market requirements, and emerging technologies, competitive positioning, and long-term product roadmaps. • Ensure engineering initiatives align with company mission, sustainability goals, and long-term product vision. • Technology Scouting & Trend Identification • Identify emerging technologies and market trends that create new business opportunities. • Promote adoption of new engineering methodologies, materials, and connectivity advancements (e.g., IoT-enabled, AMR/AMI systems). • Organization Leadership • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent; build high-performing, cross-functional teams. • Foster a collaborative, transparent, and inclusive engineering culture. • Provide coaching, mentoring, and career development opportunities. • Organization Leadership • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent; build high-performing, cross-functional teams. • Foster a collaborative, transparent, and inclusive engineering culture. • Provide coaching, mentoring, and career development opportunities. • Concept-to-Launch Management • Oversee concept-to-launch activities for new products, with emphasis on water metering technologies, IoT-enabled devices, AMI/AMI systems, and related software platforms. • Ensure collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and product management to achieve launch readiness. • Collaboration with Product/Operations/Sales • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Operations, and Sales to ensure solutions address evolving customer needs. • Act as a bridge between technical and commercial teams. • Systems Engineering / Embedded Firmware • Oversee systems engineering functions, including embedded firmware integration and performance validation across metrology and sensing technologies. • Ensure system-level design integrity in connected, IoT-enabled products. Primary Responsibilities: • Competitive Positioning • Evaluate competitive technologies and ensure the company’ba engineering strategy supports market leadership and differentiation. • Objectives & Metrics • Establish clear objectives/priorities, performance metrics, development milestones, and resource allocation plans. • Measure success through product quality, time-to-market, and engineering cost efficiency. • Equipment Design & Capability • Ensure designs meet industry standards for Hygiene, Electrical/Haz Loc, Metrology, Materials, and Cyber Security. • Oversee design and prototyping processes to ensure manufacturability and performance. • Compliance by Design • Ensure designs meet all relevant industry standards, certifications, and regional regulatory requirements. • Oversee rigorous product testing for durability, accuracy, and performance. • Lead, manage, and mitigate high-level risks identified in the corporate Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process. • Product Sustainability • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and product sustainability. • Support development of long-life, environmentally responsible product designs. • Existing Product Enhancement • Lead sustaining engineering and continuous product improvement initiatives. • Drive efficiency and quality improvements in legacy product lines. • New Product Market Research • Partner with product and commercial teams to identify customer needs and integrate them into new product designs and technology roadmaps. Secondary Responsibilities: • Global / Multi-Site Team Leadership • Lead and manage the engineering organization (100 employees), including product development, R&D, project management, systems engineering, sustaining engineering, test engineering, metrology, and product regulatory & compliance. • Proven ability to lead global or multi-site teams and ensure consistent technical standards and communication. • ERP Contribution • Key contributor to Company-specific Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) initiatives. • Align engineering data and project tracking with ERP systems for visibility and resource planning. • Plant Layout Optimization • Equipment Maintenance • CAPEX / Project Management • Oversee resource allocation and capital investments related to engineering projects and tools. • Lead high-visibility projects from concept through production, balancing scope, cost, and schedule.
