Overview: Horton, Inc. has an opening for a Lead Field Service & I&E Technician- Oil & Gas. The preference is for this hire to live in Texas Panhandle region. Position Summary: Horton is expanding its Oil & Gas business and seeking a Lead Field Service & I&E Technician to oversee the installation, commissioning, and field validation of Horton’s clutch and control systems on natural-gas compressor packages. This individual will be the first member of a new field service team (eventually 2–6 people) and will set the standard for quality, safety, and technical excellence in the field. The role combines mechanical installation (mounting clutches, brackets, pulleys, etc.) with electrical and controls work (wiring, sensor installation, programming, and commissioning). The technician will work directly with compressor OEMs, packagers, and operators to ensure Horton products integrate seamlessly and perform reliably in demanding environments. Responsibilities: Lead Field Service & I&E Technician- Oil & Gas Responsibilities: Installation & Commissioning • Lead the on-site installation of Horton clutches and associated drive components on natural gas compressors. • Mount mechanical components including clutches, brackets, and guards; ensure alignment and proper torquing. • Install sensors (temperature, pressure, RPM, current, etc.), wiring harnesses, conduit, and enclosures per Horton design. • Wire, terminate, and test control panels, relays, contactors, and PLC interfaces. • Load, modify, and troubleshoot PLC or HMI software for clutch control logic. • Perform system checkout and commissioning: verify wiring, signal integrity, and control logic functionality. • Document all installation parameters, calibration values, and test results. • Provide installation feedback to engineering to improve design robustness and serviceability. Controls Integration & Field Testing • Integrate Horton clutch control systems with the customer’s existing compressor controls, sensors, and SCADA. • Validate system functionality, safety interlocks, and control performance during compressor operation. • Capture operational data for engineering analysis and product validation. • Assist in developing and refining control strategies for varying load and temperature conditions. • Support field trials and prototype testing of new Horton Oil & Gas products. Customer Interface & Training • Serve as the on-site technical lead for customer installations. • Coordinate with customer maintenance, I&E, and operations personnel during install and startup. • Provide training on product operation, troubleshooting, and preventive care for Horton components. • Ensure customer satisfaction and serve as the technical liaison between field and engineering teams. Team Development & Leadership • Establish installation procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols. • Train and mentor future technicians as the field team grows. • Provide feedback on staffing needs, tools, and process improvements. • Maintain accurate records of labor, travel, tools, and materials. Safety & Compliance • Ensure adherence to all customer site safety rules and Horton policies. • Maintain current certifications for working in oil & gas environments (H2S, PEC, confined space, etc.). • Lead by example — demonstrating safe work practices at all times. Qualifications: Lead Field Service & I&E Technician- Oil & Gas Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: • 5+ years of combined mechanical and electrical/instrumentation experience in oil & gas, industrial automation, or heavy-equipment industries. • Strong hands-on installation experience: mechanical assembly, alignment, wiring, conduit installation, and electrical troubleshooting. • Demonstrated experience with instrumentation and controls, including PLCs, sensors, and control panels. • Proficient in reading electrical schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings. • Capable of programming, modifying, or troubleshooting PLC/HMI logic (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Murphy, Altronics, EMIT, or similar). • Comfortable working independently at remote field locations. • Strong documentation, communication, and customer-service skills. • Ability to travel up to 75% and work in outdoor environments. • Valid driver’s license with acceptable record. • Must be able to show legal authorization to work in the United States. No Visa sponsorship provided. Preferred Qualifications: • Associate degree or technical certification in Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Industrial Controls. • Experience integrating auxiliary systems (fans, pumps, heaters, louvers, etc.) onto process equipment. • Familiarity with gas-compression operations and environments. • Experience leading small field or construction crews. • Understanding of oil & gas safety standards (API, NFPA, ISA, OSHA, etc.). Work Environment & Physical Requirements • Field work at compressor stations and industrial sites, often outdoors and in varying weather. • Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and working on or around large machinery. • Use of PPE including FR clothing, hard hat, safety boots, gloves, eye and hearing protection, and H₂S monitor. • Travel including overnight stays and occasional weekend work.
