Ensure effective governance, support strategic planning, and assist in fundraising for a growing nonprofit.
Prior nonprofit board experience, leadership background in military or first responder communities, and willingness to engage in fundraising and governance activities.
Heroes’ Anchor is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving children of military, veteran, and first responder families through free, retreat-style resilience and leadership programs. We are early-stage — mission-clear, values-driven, and actively building the governance, operational, and fundraising systems that will sustain long-term impact. This is not a maintenance role. It is a builder’s role. We are seeking a Board President to help steward the governance foundation of a growing nonprofit serving military and first responder families. The right candidate understands: • Governance vs. operations • Fiduciary responsibility • Founder-led organizational dynamics • Early-stage growth realities • The culture of service and sacrifice within military and first responder communities You will not run programs. You will not manage staff. You will help ensure the organization is governed wisely, sustainably, and in alignment with its mission. Ideal Candidate Profile: We are particularly interested in individuals who: • Have prior nonprofit board or governance experience • Have executive, military command, or senior leadership background • Are comfortable navigating ambiguity while systems mature • Value servant leadership over personal visibility • Have respect for or familiarity with military and first responder communities • Are willing to actively support fundraising and board engagement Experience in nonprofit leadership, governance, finance, public service, or veteran/first responder communities is highly valued. Expectations: • Attend and lead board meetings • Partner strategically with the Executive Director • Support governance development and board accountability • Participate in fundraising efforts • Serve as an ambassador for the organization Time commitment: Approximately 5–8 hours per month, with additional involvement during growth initiatives.
