Operations Manager Portable Sanitation Division Hemley's Septic Service, a trusted and professional septic service company, seeks an experienced Operations Manager for its Portable Sanitation Division to join and help lead our growing Handy-Kan team in Gig Harbor, Washington. Job Summary The Operations Manager directly leads the field and logistics operations of Hemley's Portable Toilet Division (Handy-Kan). This role focuses on management of route drivers and warehouse functions while collaborating closely with the account management and accounts receivable teams to ensure seamless division performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who will oversee all routes, lead warehouse functions, and serve as the primary escalation point for operational challenges and customer complaints. About Us Established in 1962, Hemley's Septic Service is a family-owned and operated business in Gig Harbor, Washington. We provide professional septic and drain services to residential and commercial properties throughout Kitsap, Mason, and Pierce counties. Our dedicated team at Hemley's cares deeply about providing our customers with fast, friendly, and reliable services. Responsibilities Operations & Field Leadership • Oversee the scheduling, routing and daily performance of all route drivers to minimize costs and meet customer deadlines. • Actively participate in deliveries, setups, and servicing during peak periods, special events, or for large-scale specialized contracts. • Conduct field inspections to ensure service quality, customer satisfaction, and strict compliance with safety and operational standards. • Act as the final point of resolution for operational hurdles and escalated customer complaints, ensuring professional and prompt solutions in the field. Warehouse & Inventory Management • Lead all warehouse functions, ensuring all equipment is appropriately cleaned, repaired, organized, and maintained. • Manage inventory levels for units, hand-washing stations, chemicals, and cleaning supplies to prevent operational delays. • Stay updated on industry trends and implement new systems or technologies to improve field efficiency and service. Team Development & Performance • Lead, mentor, and manage the team, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment to ensure cohesion and productivity. • Lead recruiting, onboarding, and and ongoing training programs to improve technical skills and ensure regulatory compliance. • Set performance targets and regularly evaluate team members to ensure they meet productivity, safety, and customer service goals. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Administration • Partner with Account Management and the A/R team to align field operations with office requirements, ensuring accurate data flow for invoicing and collections. • Monitor operational costs, including labor, fuel and maintenance. Track KPIs and provide regular reports on driver efficiency, response times, and overall department profitability. • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to identify and support growth opportunities, including sponsorships and large-scale event contracts. • Ensure all operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including waste-disposal laws and health standards. Qualifications and Skills • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. • 3-5 years of management experience, preferably in a service-based industry such as waste management, logistics, or sanitation. • Proven track record of leading teams in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate employees. • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. • High level of customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal. • Willingness and ability to physically assist in the field, including delivery and servicing of units. • Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and lead warehouse repair functions. • Familiarity with routing and scheduling software for service or logistics industries. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other business software. • Ability to bridge the gap between field operations and office administration. • Willingness to work additional hours as necessary during peak seasons or special events.
