Position Summary: The City Hall Older Adult Center (CHOAC) is one of the largest older adult centers in New York City. It provides nutritious meals, vital services, and engaging activities to older adults from across the city. Recognized as a model for delivering high-quality, high-volume programming that is both culturally and linguistically responsive, CHOAC holds a prominent public profile and strong community visibility. The Head Cook will lead and work with food service staff to ensure that daily congregate meals are prepared and cooked in accordance with NYC Aging and Department of Health Standards for meal service was well as daily temperature log, orders for food inventor and menu planning. This position reports to the Assistant Director and/or Program Director. Responsibilities: * Lead the kitchen food service team to ensure the efficient daily preparation, cooking, and packaging of grab-and-go meals. * Move, pack, and store food supplies and related items in an organized and safe manner. * Participate in menu planning to support nutritional and operational goals. * Prepare daily food inventory and place necessary orders. * Assist with maintaining accurate inventory and ensuring proper organization of food supplies. * Clean all appliances, equipment, and storage areas; maintain cleanliness of the dining room and kitchen, including cupboards, shelves, racks, work surfaces, cooking equipment, dishes, and utensils. * Assume responsibility for cooking and serving meals in the absence of a cook or other food service staff. * Submit inventory orders to the Office Manager for planned purchases from assigned vendors and/or shop at local markets as needed. * Ensure compliance with NY Aging and Department of Health (DOH) operating standards. * Attend team meetings and required trainings as directed by the supervisor. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in food preparation or a related setting. * Strong cooking skills and a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team. * Valid Food Protection Certificate required, or willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire. * Must undergo a physical examination and TB test; must be free of any active communicable disease. * Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and remain standing for extended periods. * Bilingual fluency in English and Chinese preferred; basic English reading, writing, and speaking skills required. Compensation: $20 to $23 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (35 hours per week) Excellent benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 12 paid agency-wide holidays per annum Hamilton-Madison House is an Equal Opportunity Employer
