About the position TalentFish is casting a line for a Sr Engineer Unified Communications/M365 our client is a leading international law firm that provides innovative legal solutions to many of the world's top financial institutions and Fortune Global 500 companies. This position will focus on the M365 environment and must have experience with M365, understanding how different applications and TEAMS works, and be able to tackle all things related to email from start to finish. This is a full-time direct hire role – remote but looking for candidates in California preferable in LA. The Senior Engineer will be expected to architect, support, and enhance the enterprise collaboration and messaging environment. The role will primarily support end-to-end email delivery operations and oversee the administration of M365 applications, including Teams, Exchange, and other key Microsoft applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Microsoft 365, Exchange (Online and On-Prem), Proofpoint, and Metadact, and a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end email lifecycle across cloud and hybrid models. Experience with telephony/VoIP and SharePoint Online is a strong plus. They must understand email flow from start to finish and have at least 7+ years' experience in this space Responsibilities • Lead the design, implementation, and support of enterprise Unified Communications solutions with a primary focus on Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and hybrid Exchange environments. • Act as the subject-matter expert for all email architecture, including on-prem and cloud routing, mailflow design, authentication, message hygiene, and deliverability. • Understand and assist in administering email security platforms, including Proofpoint, supporting policies, DLP, encryption, TAP, and routing. • Support and maintain Metadact for metadata scrubbing, compliance, and secure content handling. • Manage and troubleshoot the complete email lifecycle, including DNS, SMTP relays, connectors, transport rules, security controls, and message tracking. • Oversee hybrid Exchange configurations, connectors, coexistence, and migration activities. • Provide Tier 3/4 escalation support for complex messaging and unified communications issues. • Collaborate with security, infrastructure, and application teams to maintain consistent standards and ensure secure, high-performing UC services. • Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, architectural diagrams, and operational runbooks. • Contribute to UC strategy, roadmap planning, and lifecycle management initiatives. • Participate in audits, risk assessments, and policy development related to messaging and collaboration technologies. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). • 7+ years of experience in Unified Communications, Messaging, or Microsoft 365 engineering roles. • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Exchange Hybrid, and core mailflow components. • Must understand email flow from start to finish and have at least 7+ years' experience in this space • Powershell or similar scripting for automation and system administration. • Hands-on experience with Proofpoint email security solutions. • Working proficiency with Metadact or other metadata-scrubbing solutions. • Deep understanding of the full email journey, including DNS, SMTP, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, TLS, routing topologies, and mail hygiene. • Strong capability in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex email and UC issues across hybrid architectures. • Solid understanding of identity and security technologies: Azure AD, OAuth, conditional access, MFA, etc. • Experience with PowerShell or similar scripting for automation and system administration. • Strong communication and documentation capabilities. • Ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers. • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. • Collaborative mindset with a focus on service quality and resiliency. Nice-to-haves • Certifications such as: Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator. • MCSE / MS-100 / MS-203. • Proofpoint Certified Specialist. • Relevant UC or security certifications. • Experience with telephony/VoIP systems, such as Microsoft Teams Phone, Cisco, Avaya, or similar. • Working knowledge of SharePoint Online, including permissions, site architecture, and administration.
