Job Purpose We are seeking an innovative and motivated translational physician scientist highly experienced in genetics and translational medicine to join the Translational & Clinical Genetics team, which sits within the GSK Human Genetics and Genomics organisation. The successful candidate will conduct hands-on data analyses and provide strategic leadership within cross-functional scientific teams to identify, develop and deliver novel programmes of work to impact the GSK pipeline. You will have deep expertise in genetics, and experience of integrating genetics with genomics (for example, proteomics) and clinical phenotypes in data analyses. You will have the keen ability to understand the full context and nuances of a scientific question using your clinical expertise and translational experience and link that detailed understanding to the design and delivery of customised analyses to efficiently address the specific question with expert interpretation and recommendations. Your work will have application across therapeutic areas and across all stages of drug discovery and clinical development to inform target and biomarker discovery, disease and mechanistic understanding, indication and patient subgroup selection, and treatment response optimisation using precision medicine approaches. The successful candidate will have leadership experience, be highly collaborative and will thrive in a multidisciplinary and scientifically driven environment interacting with GSK scientists and physicians across pre-clinical and clinical functions. Key responsibilities: This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following: • Harness deep expertise in genetics with integration of genomic (for example, genetic and proteomic) and clinical phenotypic data to undertake hands-on innovative translational analyses to impact the GSK pipeline. • Utilise your clinical and translational expertise and experience in close collaboration with GSK scientists and physicians from a range of functions to identify, develop and deliver novel programs of data-driven work to aid drug discovery and clinical development. • Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional GSK translational teams, with an emphasis on project-based work across GSK priority therapy areas. • Identify, establish and oversee external scientific collaborations. These will primarily focus on new data generation, access and analysis to catalyse translational insights relevant to GSK strategic priorities but may also include collaborations to deliver experimental medicine studies to further investigate data-driven insights. • Effective communication of analysis findings with expert interpretation and recommendations to project teams and a broad range of stakeholders. • Work with focus and agility to deliver objectives, demonstrating strong statistical, analytic and critical thinking skills with deep understanding of the translational context of your work. • Stay informed about emerging technologies and methodologies in translational genetics and genomics. • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional learning within the team. Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: • Completion of General/ Internal Medicine clinical training programme • Board/registration certification with a PhD (is required) • Documented academic and/or clinical research publication history or history of medical practice in the fields noted above. • Broad clinical knowledge across therapeutic areas and experience of clinical research to investigate translational questions. • Hands-on substantial experience of working with genetic data and conducting novel analyses that integrate genetics with genomics (for example, proteomics) and clinical phenotypes to deliver novel insights. • Demonstrated ability to understand a given scientific question and design and deliver innovative analyses customised to address the question with expert interpretation and recommendations in an academic translational medicine and/or drug discovery and development setting. • Experience and/or demonstrable understanding of appropriate use of relative and absolute summary measures to aid interpretation of comparisons between groups and the clinical utility of novel findings. • Proficiency in at least one of R and Python, with a track record of writing reproducible and scalable code • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences. • Excellent collaboration and partnership skills to work effectively with a broad range of cross-functional internal and external stakeholders. • Knowledgeable of the stages of drug discovery and development with demonstrable understanding of biomarkers and precision medicine concepts. Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: • Experience in the development and leadership of experimental medicine and recontact by genotype studies. • Strong leadership skills, demonstrating vision and strategy, to influence decision-making and to drive the prosecution of activities from ideas to data-driven insights to impacts on the GSK portfolio. • Experience of setting up and overseeing external collaborations • Experience of working in different trusted research environments (TREs) • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in multidisciplinary teams #HGG Why GSK?
